Default HPDI 200 Spark Plug numbers

I seem to have a number off on my plugs. I noticed I have NGK BKR7EKU plugs in the motor, which I apprently purchased and installed this spring. I see that the plug specification on the motor and in the manual calls for BKR6EKU plugs. Maybe that's why it's not running well at idle? Is this a heat range? An updated plug the dealer gave me? How can i make sure of the most current plug number that Yamaha calls for. I remember OMC changing the plug numbers on my FICHT monthly. Can I call Yamaha? DOes anyone have a number? Thoughts, etc?

Ok. So I called Yamaha. They said I should be running a BKR7ES10. I am running a BKR7EKU, and the manual says BKR6EKU. The ES10 plug is a completely different plug in that it has a single ground electrode. The EKU I am rinning has twin grounds! Now I am super confused! I figured correct that the 6 and 7 are heat ranges and the 6 is a hotter plug. Can anybody give me a clue?

Continuing on with this as it happens...

Called Yamaha back and asked them to verify the plug number because I was concerned that they told me to go to a single electrode plug. Yep, the first guy was wrong. She told me the correct plug was a BKR7EKU. Go figure.

I am going to install the plug that is listed in the manual, and on the hood. The 6. I troll alot. The 7 runs lousy. We'll see what happens.

Very interesting........I have a 300HPDI and the manual says to run NGK 6eku this is not the whole number but you get the point. I have 35 hours on my new motor so I decided to get a back up set of plugs in case of over oiling or fouling. I couldnt figure out how to check the gap on a twin electrode plug??????? Maybe it comes pre-gapped. As far as your engine idling rough, it is my understanding on my 300HPDI that when idling my engine drops down to 4 cylinders to be more fuel efficient. I will call Yamaha as well to find out if a single electrode plug will perform better.

Ordered the 6.

Dealer - $8.50ea + 5% sales tax = $53.55

sparkplugs.com - $5.37ea + $14.93 UPS 2nd Day Air less $3.22 online coupon = $43.93

FYI the single electrode plus were INCORRECT - that was a mistake by the Yamaha tech.

Good to hear about the mistake by Yamaha. You scared me! I fired off three emails to double check and see if I was using the right plugs. Good luck!

Black carbon- go to a hotter plug
White tips- go to a cooler plug.
I thought that there are only 3 different heat ranges ($1.50 Motorcraft, Champion, etc) not 6 or 7. If you have a link, I would sure appreciate it. New info is priceless.

Bull.

I am using NGK plugs. They have 10 heat ranges. The information was obtained at

http://www.sparkplugs.com/images/ngksparkplug.jpg

There is information on other brands as well. Very good source for plugs. I bet they are chaper than where you buy now.
