My local Parks Auto Parts carries Wix brand filters. They have replacements for all my Volvo diesel filters and at much better prices than the Volvo brand filters at the local Volvo (list + 3%) parts distributor.
Any experience or opinions on Wix brand filters? Links to comparisons?
As stated, they are good. Wix also makes a whole bunch of filters for other companies that are re-badged. Similar to the fact that Yamaha doesn't make Yamalube, Volvo doesn't make their own filters......
This link might answer your filter questions. This site rates automotive oil filters on materials and design.
The Wix filter received a fairly high rating. What surprised me was some expensive high end filters were of cheap construction. http://home.mindspring.com/~ed_white/id7.html
I've read several oil filter studies and find one thing is the same in all of them. Fram filters are very popular, but never do well in the studies. Wix is usually a decent brand, as is Napa gold.
Screw wixx filters. Like to burn up a motor. Dam thing didn't release pressure as it should and blew oil out the front seal of the engine. Yes,it could of just been one bad filter, but after contacting them, they just blew me off. That was after I sent them pictures and the filter in question.Hell, they wouldn't even do a reach around after that screwing.
Thanks for the replies and links. It looks like I'll be OK with Wix.
A mechanic friend of mine found a rusted Fram filter spewing oil in a boat he was working on but he said he didn't think it had been replaced in several years.
Many years ago I sold tinplate to WIX in NC for the filter housings (lots of it), I was shocked when I visited and found just about every brand name imaginable there
