Pete, Sea Hunt will not allow us to post our prices on the net or send quotes outside of Virginia. I hate the policy, but those are the rules. If you can get someone at the factory to turn us loose I can get you those curtains you want for free.

No offense, but when I was shopping boats you quoted me prices and I live in MD.

I have bent the rules in an e-mail before. I still cannot post any pricing on my website or send out any quotes. By quotes I mean an itemized contract.

After talking to most of the Sea Hunt dealers in the southeast I bought from Ed's during their annual yard sale (2004). I knew what I wanted and the contract was drawn up and sent to me. The boat was ordered and I picked it up and saved a considerable amt of $$$.
I live approx 300 miles from Ed's and knew that barring a total failure of the hull or outboard I would not be going back for service. After 5 years I have had very few minor things to do to the boat.
My Ed's experience was positive.

I'm not going with the "can't give quotes" thing... When I was shopping, I got 4 quotes, IN WRITING, from 4 different dealers. None of them were in my state. I also spoke with the factory and asked if there were any issues with buying long-distance. The answer was a firm, "no, and if anyone gives you trouble about it, you call me right then and there"

Dealers needs to learn that the world has gotten and MUCH smaller... where you once had no or little competition because nobody was near you geographically, that distance no longer exists.

There are people here that have transported boats across more than half the country...

Now. To give Ed's the credit that he deserves:

Ed's was one of the dealers at the forefront of this process. For a very long time, he was the guy that you went and got the bottom line price and worked it from there. In essence, Ed's created the way smart people shop. Ironic, I know... but you have to give him the credit he deserves. I've spoken with people at Yamaha, and the guy buys HUGE numbers of motors... (and likely, the same is said for boats). I do have to thank him for that.

I may be new to boating but I am not new to the service industry. There is an old saying that applies here "Service sells". If any dealer turns down service, warranty or not, they are stupid and deserve to be out of business.

Case in point, I drove 80 miles to buy my Toyota last year. By doing so I saveed $4000 which to some people is not chump change. A few weeks ago I took my truck into the local Toyota dealership for the 15K service. Guess what, they not only did one hell of a job but they offered to give me a loaner car! Can you imagine, I didn't even buy the truck from this dealer but and they offered me a loaner. That is what service is about. And guess what, the next time I buy a car I will give my local dealer first crack at selling me a car just because of the way the service department handled me. Service sells!

Last thing on the service issue. I work for a major manufacturer that lived the good life selling tons of product...that is until the economy tanked. Guess what is keeping my company afloat? The service department. A well run service department in any company is a cash machine. Any dealer that turns away service becasue some guy didn't buy a boat from him is just plain stupid.

OldPete - If you spent as much time USING your boat as you do bashing Ed's, there wouldn't be ANY fish left in the worlds' oceans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give it a freakin' break.

I have a friend that has purchased THREE Sea Hunts from Ed's in about the past 6 years (202, 232, 207) and has had a GREAT buying experience with each.

You seem to have some personal vendetta against Ed's just becuase YOU didn't get the deal YOU wanted???

I live about 12-14mi. from Ed's, have been in there many times, and have taken a lot of pics in there to post here for folks looking at Sea Hunts (pics that aren't on the website). Even met with a THT'er from KY up at Ed's to look at May Crafts. Ed's folks are ALWAYS cordial and informative. If I was looking to buy another boat right now, it would be a Sea Hunt, and it would be from ED'S!

So, in the words (actually, the PIC!) of Afishinado ...

Have a nice day - if you CAN???

That's pretty funny ^^

Look up the average number of hours put on a boat in my area... then ask me how many are on mine.

Run along. We get it. You like Ed's.

The term, "buyer beware" comes to mind when I hear the words, "Ed's Marine Superstore"...

Good luck!

Default Positive

I bought a 24 Sea Chaser from Eds a few years ago... got a great deal. But I knew what I wanted and I knew I was not going back. Eds is great for pricing but terrible for customer service after the transaction. Make sure EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of your transaction is in writing E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Errors and omissions go to favor Ed. I also had a local dealer tell me that he may not refuse me service but I could expect a long wait. If you do your homework and plan to not go back then you can get a great deal.

They are even better now.

The 210 is the same price for a 2010 boat.

The 220 is $1,000 more for a 2010 boat with a 250 4-Stroke Yamaha

And that's exactly how it should be. The dealer should put HIS customers in front of anyone else needing service. If I spend more money than I have to and buy a boat from a local dealer you better put my @ss in front of someone who went elsewhere to save a buck. And, if I buy elsewhere to save a buck, I better expect to be at the bottom of the waiting list should I need service.

I just bought a outboard in the crate and out the door there in August. I shopped hard to buy local, no one even came close to Ed's prices. I was in and out of the store in no time, over all a great transaction. I'd deal with them again in a heart beat.

On crate engines, I think I would have to agree.
