I sent Blazer 5 different emails a few months ago when I was boat shopping. Still waiting for a reply.
dont feel bad...i live 30 min from their plant and still cant get any help or straight anwsers out of them guess there is a reason they have a lifetime warranty on their boats
I have both a 16' Stur-Dee Amesbury Skiff (w/console) & an 18' Roth Bilt. There is a huge difference in those 2 feet. The Roth is a big, wide 18', with lots of room. It also have a very fast, soft ride due to the stepped hull. Excellent riding boat, easy to launch & retrieve. (Easier than the Stur-Dee for both)
The Stur-Dee pounds a bit, and is very light.
The Roth is the only one I'd choose on your list. It's 7'8" beam is a foot wider than the Eastern (Old Seaway ?)
My Stur-Dee will be for sale in the Spring.
Don't get confused but there is a difference between Roth Bilt Boats, and Chris Roth's Nantucket Skiff. I think the Nantucket Skiff may be the old Roth Bilt 16' hull from Poland, based on my own eyes.
BTW_
The Stur-Dee has a lot more room than the Bristol, due to the different requirements for flotation. That's why I initially bought the Stur-Dee over the Bristol. That and the big price difference.
Hoby interior- no room by my standards:
The best advise I can give you is let you wife have a majority say in the boat. If you expect the wife/SO to come along, the boat has to have a port a potty/changing area and of course they like some creature comforts. So what is a great boat for a guy may not high on the wife/SO list. Listen after 40+ years of marriage I have learned she is going to get her way or I will pay for it over and over again. Actually wife/SO tend to pick out some really nice boats. What is with the Center Counsel boat with you guys over there on the Right side?

Does anyone know if they are still operating, or have gone the way of so many other builders?

Good suggestion, as these are a nice little cruiser. Good layout out with three piece construction, quite rugged. Recently painted one that the owner said well suited his needs with great support from the company.
Blazer bought the molds from Wagner.boats which bought them from Hobie.
Hobie has no records of ever having produced the power skiffs . of course the ownership has changed several times in the years since these great boats where marketed . If you want to know everything check out surf talk at stripers on line /Hobie Power Skiff . its the most info on the web about this boat .
they are listing diferent lengths , Blaze is 1 " less .

Would ditto the heck out of the Hobie skiff idea, if thats an option in your mind. Had one with a 25 tiller, sweeet in every way. I found one about 15 years ago for a friend with a 70 John-rude, it hauls azz, he still has it in his toy box...
Based on what you asked, I would be peruzin the wood boat forums and mags. I had an itch for the same thing and found one or two small boat builders in New England that would build me a 16ish skiff for in the $3k range unfinished (this is maybe 10 years ago)
