You two guys in the fountains just are not playing fair!! LOL. 85mph in a fishing boat!!
I have been told I can get more speed by changing props, but I am not sure I really want to. I am pretty happy with the way it runs now. With heavier props will I gain fuel economy too at cuise? Or will the engines have to work harder to push the boat at cruise? I have never been one to start changing props around on anything, but I might consider this one. Thanks.
With more pitch, you will get higher speeds at lower rpm which means better mpg. You just have to have enough umpf to turn the bigger props...and I think you've got plenty. Never was after top speed myself, that's why I listed top speed as 64+.. I really don't know what top speed is and not all that interested in finding out either. Wanted good, fast cruise speed and good mpg. Correct prop will do both- best crusie mpg and highest top speed.... to an extent. As is, I think you're probably bumping your rev limiters. Can you get on plane with one motor?
Cruise at 16-17 knots, 12-14 gph,
Top end 21 knots
Can keep up full cruise speed rpm's in just about any wind/sea you would ever want to be out in. Boat will obviously run slower if it is running up hill all the way home, but I don't have to back off the throttle.
albemarle 262 center console, 7.4 carb jackshafted to a volvo dp. cruise is 3600rpm/23kts/16gph. top speed is probably about 30kts but im not sure about fuel consumption or rpm. big block chevrolets are not fond of high rpms so i dont know that ive ever had the boat wide open for a very long time

I am not really big on the top end speed, its nice to have sometimes, but I would rather a good mid range with a higher cruise speed with better fuel ecomony. As of right now. I believe the props are 23 pitch, I cannot plane on one motor. I tried yesterday.
I used to have a pair of 150 opti on a 26 foot CC, yes you should be getting more RPM than 5000. Those motors per Mercury should be up to 5600 WOT? You might want to give the Mercury guys a call??
