Default outriggers

I am looking at TACO 270 with 18' outriggers. I spoke with someone ) at the FLBS and they said 18' outriggers would not pull a bait correct. Not sure about that since he was pushing 15' poles. He did sell TACO but his price was high with 15"ft and rigging show special was 1895.00. not much of a deal IMO. I was looking around and only found a couple that had outriggers on display, I talked to the everglades dealer about them and they all installed outriggers with 18' poles. They sure had some good looking boats there at the show. I have never used them before so I am open to any suggestions.

I have no idea what they mean by "18' outriggers would not pull a bait correct". I have 15' on my boat and I doubt +3" would ruin my spread. In fact I suspect you could pull two lines each outrigger with 18' as with my 15' outriggers I only pull one line each.

That is way I am posting this on here. i don't understand how 3 ft would make a difference either, All I can tell you he was at the Half Hitch Booth and he said that 15' was the only way to go and that 18' would not pull the bait correct. like you 18' should handle 2 lines if I wanted too. Since TACO rep was there and Half Hitch is close to me i thought maybe I could purchase from them. But I need a little more understanding before I purchase.

Default Outriggers

He may have been talking about what you are pulling. Some outriggers are not stiff or strong enough to pull large tuna spreader bars. If you are trolling small stuff, it wont matter. Pull large tuna stuff on outriggers that are not strong enough and you will be sorry.

There does not seem to be any apparent logic to support why 18' outriggers would pull a bait less effectively than 15' outriggers, or why such a comment would be made. Unless of course all that person had in stock was 15' outriggers, then the rational would be apparent. I have owned the 15' x 1.5" taco ORs and found them fine for single line rigs, but I feel 18' ORs would provide a much better bait spread and should be easier to rig double lines. I am shopping for some 1.5" OR poles now to go with my Lee's gunnel mount bases and plan on getting 18' poles. Just my 2 cents...

Ok, How much weight would an 18' outrigger pull. I was looking at pulling 2 lures one with cigar weight around 3lbs and the other would be lighter lure or live bait.?????? Any suggestions please, I really don't have any clue what I am starting here but since bottom fishing is limited and or out of season, I better learn to troll and fish different.
