Kencraft (now Seaking) 235. Great riding boat, way more room than most in it's class, excellent fit, finish and layout. You would be hard pressed to find more boat for your money, period. Also, IMO a dryer ride than a Regulator, Albie, etc. of the same class.
I owned a 235 kencraft for 4 years with both a single and then twins and now have a 23 regulator. There are very few occasions if any that i would say the kencraft was drier, i always thought it was a wet boat. They are good boats for the money with a great layout and tons of room but i love my regulator!
I don't really think that the 23' Regulator has anything in common (regarding hull design) with the 233 Formula/24' Albemarle/Sea Vee design other than that they are all deep V's. The Regulator is 4-5 inches wider, has a substantially higher bow, a slightly different shear, and is a sharp V (no pad, hook, or rounded bottom) all the way to the transom.
Lots of great boats mentioned so far. I really like the idea of that Cummins I/O in Geechi's 242 Albe. I used to fish on a friends 242 Albemarle CC (5.0 Volvo I/O) out of Charleston ten years or so ago and loved the ride and the fuel bill split (maybe 45 gallons total for a bluewater trip). I will say that I almost always wore my rain coat on the way out on that boat (and almost never wear the rain coat on the 23' Reg).... but they are ALL wet when it is truly rough out.
Tell us more about it. What year? What power package?
It is a 2003 24cc with the Volvo 5.0 liter (380hrs). Looks mint, owner says everything is in excellent condition so with that being said if everything checks out I will purchase the boat.
I can't say anything about the others mentioned, but I ran a 24 Regualtor this summer, and it is very impressive. We ended up in some sloppy stuff a few times and the boat continued to amaze me. It is dry and just eats waves with a nice soft ride. We were so impressed with Regulator we bought a 32. An albie with a diesel does sound fun though.
Looking for something used I live in the north east. The 242cc Albe has caught my eye checked on a couple still looking for the right deal. I had one picked out @AGYG and had the deal done as soon as I set an appointment with the surveyor the owner/salesman got all flakey on me and wouldn't return my calls and when I did manage to contact him he always had some lame excuse why he couldn't meet the surveyor.
I had the same problem my surveyor says they are playing games ,probably someone else is interested and they are waiting for a better number from the other party.

I think you are correct. I think the ironic thing is the boat is still for sale (what a tool) the guy that was the owner/salesmen is no longer employed with AGYG. I think it was a scam he wanted a deposit and I kept telling him I am coming down as soon as the surveyor gives me the OK and paying in full no loans. Why would I hire a surveyor if I wasn't interested in buying doesn't make sense to me.
The Sailfish 2360 is also based on these with a 9 foot beam, not the dryest boat..Some of the others mentioned have better fit and finish.
Cracker,
The original Sailfish 236 is based off the 23' Potter Sea Craft hull. 22 degree deadrise and is pretty soft riding. The 2360 is widened and may have different ride characteristics. I've only been on the older 236, so I can't comment. The "Potter' Sea Craft's had quite a cult like following back in the day. Excellent boat.
Don't any of you guys drift fish? My neck hurts just thinking about the snap roll on most of the boats mentioned in this thread.
No arguements from me on this one.... as much as I love my Reg, it doesn't drift well in any sort of waves over 1 foot.
Like all things in boating, there are trade offs. Deep V hulls are better running in waves. Flat bottom boats are better at drift... Trade offs exist in the middle. Boats are floating compromises.
Personally, I prefer a boat that I can get out on when it is rough even if it rolls a lot. I don't drift fish much... The way I figure it.... I got out in the rough instead of staying at the dock, so live with the rock and roll....
Well I pulled the trigger on the Albi and picked it up this past week. Traveled all the way to Virginia from Cape Cod to pick it up. Took the boat out Sunday for a little pleasure ride and it handled the 3-4 footers great, very soft riding dry boat looking forward to pounding some tuna with it. Thanks for all the help and opinions on selecting a boat.
Congrats on the new 242. I trailer mine from Ma to Fl every winter. Had it out in 25 knot winds 2 weeks ago. Cannot always pick your days, and still caught fish although lost my anchor!!! For the record I only find the boat wet when its going to slow in a short chop, but over 20 knots its as dry as any other center console. The ride is amazing for a 24' boat and a clean transom is a huge advantage when fishing 4 guys...

That was one of the biggest factors in choosing this over the silverhawk.
Looking for a used 23 or 24' center console and there are so many choices I will be going off shore (10-30 miles) need to know which boats will perform the best in snotty conditions.
