In the market for a shallow draft 22-24 ft bayboat. I have looked at the Ranger 2300, herd it's heavy and slow,, herd the Pathfinders have some cracking/blistering problems theShearwater is a bit out of my price range,, but I may have to bite the bullet on it. But not until I get as much info as I can from the minds of all the fishy people I know
Anyway what does everyone think of the 24ft scout ,,good,,,bad,,, whatever,, the more opinions the better!!!
Dude, are ya serious??? You have come to the Scout worship board!
If they don't worship Scout, they worship Whaler or Grady..
If they don't worship.. Ahh, you get the idea.. LOL
Gamble, all of the boats you mentioned are very good boats and I really don't think you could go wrong with any.. Ranger is heavy and slow? That's interesting...
Welcome to the board.

I had herd on another forum that the Ranger was a bit slower due to it's weight. I have owned a few Ranger bass boats and loved them but realize that skinny salt water is a new ball game.
The only neg thing I have read is that the floor under the console is a bit thin and weak on the 240 scout and there is a bit of flex to the deck between the console and leaning post.
I really like the scout and am leaning tword it..
Let's see I want: 12' draft or less, 24ft, big live wells, 6" J plate, Tower w/cont., elec trim tabs, 50mph perf,,"but out of a 4 stroke" and I don't know wich one to use.
O- bu the way Great forum!!!! Lot's of great info!! THX for helping the new guy!!
Scout is a really good boat.....fit and finish usually are well above average. Scout also has a rep of being a bit pricey for what you get.....I can't comment there, I just didn't like the stern layout when I was picking my new center console boat last winter. You might want to look at the Triton bay boats as well, there are a couple of owners on THT that can give you their feedback.
Bottom line is that Scout makes a very good boat and there are a number of their owners on THT......and they are proud of it
Gamble, have you checked out the Champion line of bay-boats. Very nice and comparable to the Pathfinder.

I've looked at dozens of bay boats, and I've yet to see one I like better than the Scout 240 BayScout. Handles a tower with ease, has a head in the console, wide, light/fast (for its size), top-notch fit and finish. You will also have a good company backing it up. Oh yeah, the 220 is real nice too.
I would also take a close look at the Pathfinder 2400, and if you are trying to save a little money, the Sea Pro SV2300.
Bone boats are great, but I think they still only have the 18' model.
I also like the Hydra Sports Bay Bolt 2300, but it's pricey, and heavy.
Kick the tires and take your digital camera, narrow it down, then take a couple/few for a test ride. I'd be surprised if the 240 BayScout doesn't come out on top.
Almost forgot to mention. The Cape Horn 22 Bay (in fact, most Cape Horns) is one boat that might make me stray from the Scout fold. They're no way near as nice, but they're built very strong, and cost less. I like the "basicness" of them. Def. worth a look. The 22 has a really nice stepped-hull design, and can handle much bigger seas than many other bay boats of similar length (beware of the Shearwater types -- they're more flats boat than true bay boat, which should have more freeboard and deadrise).
Parker does make 2 bay boats, the 23T looks nice and has a porta-potti under the console (for those who care). The "T" stands for Texas, as in Big Water. The 23T might be too much boat for some of you, as it weighs 2900# Y'all know the story, lots of fiberglass, no foam, etc.
We all knew Fish Factory would post. Unfortunately he forgot to mention some of Parker's other unique features, do they also have 14-degrees of deadrise,
Gamble,if skinny water is what you want then the 22 ft tunnel champion I run may be the ticket. Floats in 12 inches and gets up on plane in about 15 inches. Takes rough water great and has nice fishing platform. The triton also makes a great bay boat. Scout is nice as well but the dealer here in new orleans wants a kings ransom for them. Welcome to the saltwater world.
Scouts are a great boat, little pricey than others.Scout and Key west are some what related, the owners of both compaines are related someway. Both boats are made right outside of Charleston SC,scout will give you a tour of the facilty if needed.Dont know where you are located, but you can get that boat for probably a few thousand less in Charleston, than out of state.Might be worth the drive,I purchased a 17ftcc key west in Charleston, the same boat was $3300.00 more in Florida at boat show i visited, and didnt have all the extras i received upon purchase, such as ss prop, boat cover, bimini top and few other things.Shop really hard,i did and got the deal i wanted
Simply put, I think Scout is making the best boat's out there right now for the money and value. They are built VERY well, engineered very well(read, thought out very well), they use top notch hardware on everything, and best of all, can you say Yamaguchi!!
Not sure which 24 model your interested in, but there is a brand new Scout Abaco 240 in my marina. That hull is smokin!! What you get packed into that 24' hull is amazing. They did one hell of a job designing that boat.
scout bay boats are very, very, nice. i own a sea chaser bay runner 220 te. it was by far the best boat for the money in my opinion. in march03@ marine sports, houston: new 02model, leaning postw/ cutting board, bobs jack plate, t-top, 03 150 yam 2strk, compass, 48 gal livewell, 8ft rod locker, ton of storage, solas stainless prop, tandem magic tilt trailer....out the door for $21,072.
