Default How far down the hull do you bring your shrink wrap?

I have a colored hull and plan on doing my own shrink wrap this year. I was told that on the colored hull you do not want to go below the gunnel as the shrink wrap could rub in the wind against the colored gell and leave marks. Has anyone had any experience with this? I h ad planed to go to the waterline.

A lot depends on the shape of the hull sides and rub rail overhang. If you took a staightedge (or taught line) from your rub rail down to the turn of hull and any part of the hull side is very close to that line the wrap may in fact contact the hull in the wind. Vibrating wrap can do a lot of damage.

If your worried about it rubbing the hull, then use small fenders or those foam pool noodles to place under the line that runs around the hull at the water line.

The guy next to me cut up a couple of those noodles and placed them under the line around the hull and it worked great.
