Default A tip for easier starts with your inboard or stern drive

I repowered earlier this year. The old motor was a 5.7 4 barrel with a mechanical fuel pump. I reused all my accessories (same carb). The new motor required an electric fuel pump. I CAN'T GET OVER HOW EASILY IT STARTS UP NOW. I started it up this past weekend (too rough to fish) after it had been sitting for about 7 weeks. I turned the key on and let the fuel pump pressurize (about 2 seconds) and then turn the key. It starts just like any modern fi engine. Anybody that has engines with mechanical fuel pumps (that require cranking to pump fuel) I believe an electric fuel pump upgrade would make starts easier.

I hope you have the fuel pump hooked up properly with a stalled engine circuit. Normally an oil pressure switch is used for this.

Stim points out the inherent problem with electric fuel pumps on boats and the reason there are Coast guard rules concerning their installation.

I, on the other hand encourage all the idiots out there to go to your local auto parts store, buy a pump and hook 'er up!

Natural selection has been over ridden by the politically correct for much too long!
