OK guys, things have been very busy lately in a good way.
I am used to running a 37 Express Cruiser that tops out at 26 kts, and cruises comfortably at 22-23 kts. The diesels were underfoot, and made conversation difficult when underway. There was also no trimming of motors involved in running the boat.
My weekend experiences were nothing like what I was used to. It seems as though I am starting over in the boating world. Everything from cruising to putting it on the lift is different. But let me start with the question that I am sure most want to know, performance.
I asked for the boat to be propped to give me the best possible burn at 44 kts. It is not important to me to be the fastest boat on the water, I know their is always someone faster. It is important to me to get 50 miles offshore in an hour, and back in the same amount of time for fishing. The screws selected were Mirage Plus 23's.
Saturday, with 8 people aboard and 400+ gallons of fuel and me not knowing how to trim the boat out very well, we hit 64.8 mph. I was not paying strict attention to the tach, but we were between 58 and 5900. Again, I am not a speed freak, I like to fish. Those are the perf. numbers so far.
Putting her away, I was faced with a 15-20 mph wind out of the south and I was putting her into a 15' wide west facing lift. It took several times, even with the bow thruster, and was the most stressful part of the day. I was able to get her in and only whack one piling hard enough to strum like a guitar string. No harm, no foul.
Heading out for the first fishing trip Thursday, can't hardly wait.
Trimming will take some time to get used to if you were coming from a sportfish. For me its almost 2nd nature now. Once I get on plane I trim up and its time to rock~n~roll.
The 23 Mirage plus is what I have on my boat. I tried a few with prop gods and found that the props Wylie puts on seem to be the right ones. None of the props we tried did any better than the mirage's. Trimming will take time to learn, if its anything like mine after the bow drops trim all 4 up at the same time. Then the rpm's should jump up on either the inside 2 or the outside 2.(I have not ran the 42 so I dont know which ones) Stop trimming the ones that the rpms jumped up on and trim the other two up to match them. Also if the sinc button is lit on your controlls, turn it of. It does not allow you to see exactly whats going on with all the motors. When I turned mine off I realized that my center motor needed far less trim than my outside two and my performance increased.

Fantastic, I'll give this a shot the next time the water is open and smooth enough to help me read the displays. The north wind has started to blow, you know what that means...

Yep; no problem with the 42YF!!

That's excellent advice from 24/7, as usual, on trimming a multi-engine stepped hull boat. I will say this, that it will get easier with practice. You'll get accustomed to what the motors sound like and what the boat feels like under your feet without having to constantly monitor the tachs or trim gauges. Once you get into some smoother water and have a chance to run her up and down, you can feel the boat rise up on the steps and loosen up as you trim the motors out (and by the same token, tighten back up as you trim down). It won't take long for you to get the hang of it.
OK, for those of you who have been asking to see some footage of her running in tough stuff, here is your video. NOAA called for 3-5's, we had a myriad depending on where we were in relation to Sanibel and the wind. The really big stuff was not filmed because we needed our hands for things other than the camera. Those times, we were in 5-7 footers with the occassional 9. It might be that video is just too flat to put it out there, but here we go.
If anyone knows a better way to portray this let me know.
Maybe get spendy on a video camera, i'm sure you can integrate it into your electronics,
The boat is a tank......looks awesome, congrats!!! Now get it nice and bloody......

A little bit of tab and she will run a lot better. It will stop the nose from popping up.
I was gonna say did you have your tabs down a little. If not you can put them down and run a lot harder and faster as possibly smoother. Looked like those seas were nasty, great video. Have you noticed if your rpm's are diffrent on your inside or outside motors when you trim them up? Get that bow down when its nasty.
Good to know, I have not put ANY trim tab into her at all yet. The ride has been so nice I have been wondering why they were installed at all .
It looks like we have about 4-5 days of 20 knot winds out of the north. If I can find a wild hare up I might give her another run and throw some trim tab in.
Very impressed with the performance though, 4 guys 500 gals of fuel and isinglass up to the gunwales and we still hit 62. She is nasty fast, and my neighbors say she sounds like a fighter jet when she is running fast.
The second video of the VV displays almost made me hurl. Hard to look at that stuff when bouncing so hard. Never had an issue on the water, but the video sure made me a little queazy.
