Question on OMC High Vis Gearcase Oil

I have Suzuki df140's and have consistently used their gear oil in my lower unit.

Recently a friend gave me 2 gallons of OMC High Vis gearcase oil he's had sitting in his garage for a few years. Does anyone know if this is a good gear case oil and what weight it is? Would I be able to use it in my motors or stick with the Suzuki oil?

If you want to use it, check the specs on the OMC stuff vs your manual. Probably won't match. How much are your twins worth and how much are you saving on oil? And how long is a "few years'?

Yes it will work fine.

In fact, for a number of years most Johnson 4 stroke outboards were Suzuki engines with different decals, including the 140, and they recommended HiVis oil for the gearcases

im sure that suzuki recommends suzuki oil but that doesnt mean using royal purple or mobil 1 or merc hi perf oil is wrong.
