Default Upgrading to a Trophy 2503 - Optimax 200hp or 4cyl Verado 200hp

I am considering upgrading to the 2503. Which will give me best (in order of importance) mpg, acceleration and WOT speed, twin Optimax 200hp or twin Verado 4cyl 200hp.

I love the quietness of my Verado and the power steering but if there is a substantial performance advantage with the Optimax I would consider it.

Cheers,

Substantial? I dunno. The Opti really shines at idle and WOT. If you live in those area's, than that is the thing to have.

Opti is also superior if you do a lot of trolling as the Verado likes wide open throttle not being under load at 1500 RPMs

Go the 4cyl 200's. The old mans 175's have been very good.

What are you going to tow the new beast with?

I will be upgrading my Landcruiser to the new 200 Series. In Australia we can get the Landcruiser with a twin turbo diesel V8.

You can't get the DTS with the 200 Optimax. That alone may convince you to splurge for the Verados.

Ok, I stand corrected, I thought it was only available on the 225 and up.

Unless new the 4 cyl Verado's don't come with PS. I'm also not sure how the performance difference between the 4cyl and 6cyl would be. Maybe Joey from Sundance can offere some comparisson.

I would say that if midrange performance is what you're looking for (who doesn't want that?) then the Optis will provide it. It works like this, the gear ratios on the Optis let the boat cruise faster at the same RPMs, however, you will burn more fuel than the Verados. MPG will be very similar since the Verados are going slower, but burning less. If mid range speed is not important, but MPG is and you enjoy the quiet performance of your current Verado, then that's the route you should go. It is hard to go from silent operation to an Optimax with a screaming 2-stroke sound track. In regards to power steering, it is available on both motors, but you have to pay extra (not standard like on the 6-cyl Verados), DTS is standard on Verado and will cost you about $2500 to upgrade on the Opti.
