Ok guys, Yesterday i test drove, for a good friend a 1997 251 Walkaround Proline With a 2004 Suzuki 250 on a bracket. I have a couple of ??? for you guys. I AM NOT A OUTBOARD GUY, nor really know to much about them. It all started out bad. I get there and the guy do not show up for like 20 mins. Then the boat has beer bottles everywhere, and to top it off the Fuc*** batterys are dead. After a hour of waiting He finally gets it started. We head out and all seems well but as he goes to get on plane it just seems like it shoud have more? Then it gets on plane and the peedo does not work. Luckly i had my handheld and at 4k it runs 20mph@12gph, 5K runs 25 mph@ 19Gph. Does this seem right? I would think it shoud go faster. Its weight is 4200. Then on the way in he misses the channel, and hitts the dock wile docking and scratches the gelcoat!!!!!!! NO TRAILER and he wants 20,000 I told my buddy to ofer him 15K with a full tank of gas.

ALL INPUT IS HELPFULL, thanks
Well, maybe you dropped by the right place.
LOA 27'4"

Cockpit depth 29"

Bridge clearance w/ hardtop 8'8" +/-
Cabin headroom 6'2"

Baitwell cap 51 Qts
Freshwater 20 Gals
200 H.p about 40 MPH
225 H.P. about 42 MPH
250 H.P. about 45 MPH
The bottome is nineteen degrees at the transom.
Expect the boat to get you a little wet now and then, but, generally, well over 90% of the owners of the hull were very fond of it.
It's a wood free struture in the hull, so you wont have any rot issues.
It is alot of structure built up on the nineteen degree deadrise at the transom, so, now and then, you might find it a little wet, but that's the compromise for the stand up cabin and features it offers.
Need anything more, I'm delighted to answer.
THANKS FOR LOOKING AT A PRO-LINE, it's a shame the sea trial went poorly for you. It's really a nice boat.
Mike
maybe it's not properly propped.
what was the rpm at WOT ?
You know folks go on and on as to different brands, hulls, deadrise, so on and so on.
Bottom line, your photo of those boys is 100% what it's all about.
you're right mike.
those 2 boys are my brother and me after the best fishing day of our lives with our dad. that was about 40 years ago.
we got into a school of jack and fished them til we got tired.
our boat was magical to us and we didn't care or even know about deadrise. none of that mattered .
the boat was an 18 foot Glen-L cabin cruiser powered by a monster 45 hp merc.
i remember that my dad bought it from a neighbor for $500 including the trailer.
it flew at 25mph wide open and held 24 gallons of gas. we thought it was really fast.
our safety equipment consisted of life preservers and our navigational devices were a compass and chart.
family boating can build lifelong memories and help to bond everyone close together. [/IMG]

Back a whole lot of years ago, the BOATHOUSE BULLETINS published by MERCURY often had the lady I married 47 years ago, pictured. They were all done when the saltwater test facility was in Sarasota. She was in those photo's because her father ran both the saltwater facility in Sarasota, and LAKE X for Mr. Kiekhaefer. The family home was actually on the site along with a home Mr. Kiekhaefer had built. The property is now "The Point" condo's.
So, on our walls are photo's of my wife and others dating back into the fifties running MERCURY powered boats, skiing behind them and the like.
So, yes, I can understand why that photo means so much to you. I share in that with you.
As to your outboard, I spun wrenches on them.
Well, I'm a long time employee of PRO-LINE, so, as far as my product is concerned I have them.
Your boat, what brand?
She is a 1990 Invader V265 26 ft Cabin Cruiser (converted to fisher) with a Merc 330hp I/0
She is a tank and must be some where in the 6500 +++ range or more. It Handel's Rough water no problem and takes wakes like there are not even there. Was wondering if you had access to specs form manufacturer cause i cant find a dam thing. Only thing i can find is the 24ft and no weight

I'm sorry, no I'm no help here.
As I last knew, they were in TEXAS.
But have not heard of them for years.
Thats fine, Thanks for the info on the proline. DO you think that if my friend can get it for 16k, is it a good deal?
The boat should give you no worries. That is, the fiberglass, the strucure itself. I have no way of knowing anything about the motor and how all else was maintained, wiring, etc.
Best bet, take it to a certified tech for the motor. Pay him to give you a report as to the motor and all else. It'l cost you perhaps two or three hours of his labor, but you'll know what you have.
From the sound of the sea trial experiance, perhaps it was not maintained, or maybe just sat for awhile unattended.
Either way, a certified tech as to the motor is what I'd do. He's good for more answers than just the motor.
GOOD LUCK!
Oh, another thing worth knowing, the LOA is pulpit to transom, molded glass. From there is a 2' bracket, then about 2' more to the props. Thus, even though the model number would give you to believe a 25', no, it brings alot more to the party than that. Pulpit to prop, between 31'/32' of reach. It's really a good hull.
Hello. Was that Proline by any chance located in Bristol, RI? I just sent an email to a person selling the same year boat with the same year Suzuki. If that is the case, you may have just saved me a long car ride. Thanks

I have a buddy that sold a 1998 240 Sport (Same hull I think, maybe Mike can clarify) for 16k with a 2005 250 Etec (300hours) and a trailer. The boat was in good shape. Only your friend can decide what she is worth but I would not give more than 15K. Oh and by the way that 250 Etec pushed that boat 50mph with a light load and 1/4 tank of gas. Loaded down it would touch 42mph.

No, the 24 Sport was a little shorter.
Same basic hull though.
My favorite of all was the 24 Sport and the "2950".
The 24 Sport was a couple feet shorter.
During that period, all of them, depending on the model year, from what we called 23' thru 25' were all understated.
All of them were bigger than what we called them.
Same basic hulls though.
EXTREMELY POPULAR!
Alot of us miss them.

So there you have it. I stand corrected. And yes Mike the fishing room on that boat was awesome.

When I talk about our model designations from year to year it often makes my brain hurt.
What year did we call the same boat what length?
The 23, the 24 the 25 were the same but the "251" was different?
Twice this year I spoke without thinking and both times stood corrected by consumers.
Believe me, I recall each time.
And I'm supposed to know what I'm talking about?
So, if you feel you "stand corrected" you should see it from my side.
THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS!
Thats what i was thinking, WOT could only turn 5400. Done know if thats right or not. Boat had no gas in it and 3 people No gear.
yeah that motor should push that boat well into the 40s.....you need to be able to see 6100 rpms to get the best out of it...it is wayyy over propped...what wheel is is turning?
