Our customer service folks, (800) 344-1281, Monday thru Thursday, have the prop info on everything we've ever built, well allmost.
Call them, that's what they're there for and we're delighted to help.
These are very common questions.

I'll toss around a different idea. Ask the owner to first have his mechanic check the batteries (replace if trashed) and to fine tune the prop/engine so that she runs like she is supposed to. Don't worry about the speedo and other stuff like that.

Something is seriously not right with the speed and fuel burn. After she is running right then you make offer subject to survey. If he doesn't like this idea walk away.

There is a lot of boats out there and I would pass. Get a boat that is already propped correctly and gives you and your friend a good feeling.

X2 I completely agree. The proline 251 is a really common boat, if this one doesn't seem right, I'm sure you can find another.

SEAJAY & NOMIS might be correct in what they're saying, but maybe look at it another way as well.
Maybe the boat has sat, perhaps from sitting there's many things to address. Not necessarily a mortal sin.
A certified, CERTIFIED, tech re the power can tell him everything he'd ever wish to know about the package. Perfect world, the boat goes to the tech, the tech w/ his computer can tell him everything that has occured to the motor from the day it came out of the box.
The fiberglass itself is a no brainer.
Since model year "95" which includes much of calender year "94", no wood, no rot, this is not a big deal.
Ok, prop issues? That's everyday, everywhere.
Batteries, Ok?
This that and the other thing? Pretty normal.
If he can buy it right, and the power checks out, WITH A CERTIFIED TECH, the other stuff might be an annoyance, but hopefully that's all.
Maybe it'll be a good deal for him?

Well, actually, my tue love was a "241" w/ 225 Opti.
I demonstrated how smart I was.
My wife could take the "241" dog, grandson, whatever, beach it inside, go claming, enjoy the day with the boat.
By herself, a great day.
I fixed all of that.
Without telling her, I surprised her with a "2950" which she could do none of the above by her self.
So, I was absolutely, 100% sure, of being an idiot!
I'm still in a world of it over that.

I have a 1999 251 walk with a 200 carb Ocean Pro. Bracket. Came with a 19 in prop
and went 39 to 41 mph gps. Went to 17 and then 15 pitch. 35 mph @ 5500 rpm , but will now keep seas.
The boat pounds and shakes in over 3 foot chop . She is seaworthy, however, and fishes very well. I have buried the nose repeatedly in 10's at 15 mph. Scuppers work..well.
Lots of room for a 25, and she is pretty.
I am thinking of a Zuke 300, because the Evinrude is such a gas hog.
All in all a servicable grade "B" boat.

I have also test driven the boat in question and saw the same problems, also seemed to bog down on turns. I was comparing to an 250hp 04 enrinrude DI with 320 hrs on it. Which I have just recently purchased. WOT is about 5800-6000 rpm and 37 mph with a half take. It has an aluminum prop with some bends on tips of two of the three blades. I would like to switch to a SS> I'm looking for some info on the proper size prop to use. As of now my cruising speed is about 24-26 mph at 4800 rpm

i just bought a 97 model 251 and I love it. It does only have a 225 mariner on the back of it but at WOT, she gets up to 43-45 according to the GPS, it's just a tad slow at getting there. I love the hull and layout of the deck. I am thinking about repowering it in a few years. Why the hell is the max HP rating only 300 for this size of a boat though? I would love to have twins on the back as well but we'll see in a few years as to how the budget is looking

Have you looked at the boat in Bristol? Was thinking of driving down, but don't want to waste my time if it is a joke.
