Default Foggy Gauges

My Tachometer on the boat gets foggy underneath and sometimes even looks to have moisture inside. Is there a remedy for this?

Could you take a blowdryer to it and dry up the inside? I thought these things were supposed to be sealed, how would moisture be getting in?

Cory

Lots of times leaving the instrument lights on for a few minutes will dry them out.

Leave the lights on 'till they clear.

Make certain the boat is in an area where NAV lights won't cause a problem while stationary.

Don't permit the fog / water to remain 'cause it can etch the inside of the glass, causing permanent damage.

Or, wire the instruments so that they are backlit anytime the ignition is on.

That might do it, but I've found that eliminating fogged gauges works best at night.

Sometimes I can get it to work during the day if I block the sun w/ towels, but it always seems to work best at night, over many hours.

if you drill a 1/8" hole in the back of the housing, it will be able to breathe and will not condensate any more
