Default Fountain 38 Models

I'm looking for a fast boat that can cruise and fish, and the Fountain 38 LX and Sportfish are at the top of my list. Does anyone know how they compare, and what their best competitors are?

There is no competition in my honest opinion. try Donzi and Intrepid for similar layouts. The 38 SFC with trip verados is a beast and runs close to 70 mph. I prefer the SFC over the LX. Different hull and has an Express layout and well thought out large cabin.

I looked at Fountain's website, and the SFC OB is heavier and faster than the LX. Why would that be? It looks like the two models kind of overlap, but the LX is more of a cruiser and the SFC is more of a fishing boat. Is that about right?

What kind of Donzi is it?

The SFC is a redesigned hull. It has a sharper entry and no beak on the bow (more running surface). I wish they would put that hull under the 38 CC.

There is a 2008 38 LX with trip 300 verados at Legendary in Destin. Its a new boat repo and I think they will take 180k for it. Its worth a look if are considering one.

Do you think they will make an LX with the SFC hull? That sounds like what I need. Also, I didn't see a 2008 LX on Legendary's Yachtworld site. Did they just get it in?

I just checked and the LX must be sold. But, it appears they now have 2 SFC. Don't be scared to make an offer.

I don't know what Fountain would do as far as a custom LX w/ a sfc hull. You can always ask them

I don't know if you're serious, but I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. A cruising layout on that hull would be great.

Propbender, you had another post that talked about the different 38 cc hulls for 2009. Are they different for the LX, too? Looks like Legendary just got a 2010 in. What do you think it would go for?

How fast is fast ? Just repowered 377 Intrepid w/ 300 verados top end is 60 mph w/cruise around 43 mph. 11'8 beam , huge fish boxes, dive door etc. have friend who just bought 38 fountain lx sport , although a nice boat , to me just not same league as intrepid ( fit, finish, ) Don't know what your needs are but if anything like mine( wife ,2 daughters and I fish and dive , do your self a favor and look @ Intrepid.

I don't know if the LX hull has changed, you would have to ask Fountain.

I don't know what they would take. Its bank owned and depends on the bank. Thats why i said don't be scared to make an offer. On different weeks the banks are willing to take bigger losses.

I talked to a guy at Fountain today, and he says that the 2009 LX has the Sportfish hull, and it will hit 69 with triple 300 Verados.

The video of the 390 Sport Yacht on the Intrepid site looks great, too. It will probably come down to that or the LX. Can you get white Verados from the factory?

to answer my own question on earlier post " How fast is fast?" The other day as I was heading down ICW towards ocean a 38 fountain lx came past me wot at what I would say was around 70 mph since I was running 55 mph. 15 minutes later in ocean about 1 mile offshore it was my turn to do the out running in my 377 Intrepid. The look on those hard core fishermen faces as me,my wife and 2 daughters on a quick run out on a dolphin hunt in 3-4 ft chop passed by them was priceless .
