’01 200hp Mercury Optimax post fix reliability? After reading the many posts here on ’01 200hp Mercury Optimax engines, I would simplify the critical concern as potential serious problems with injector failure, which could result in catastrophic engine damage (noting that there have been other issues). I also understand that if you contact Merc and provide the serial number of the engine, they will tell you if the appropriate updates were installed, including fuel rails/’blue dot’ injectors, the ECM, and thermostats.
So now I get to my questions. First, what has been your experience with these engines subsequent to the upgrades/updates – did this improve their reliability or have the same, or new major, issues continued? Secondly, I would appreciate recommendations for Merc mechanics on Cape Cod who are competent engine surveyors.
Thanks and much appreciated.
