As you regular readers are aware I have a thing for Regulators.......I bought a used Contender because it was a whole lot cheaper. Anyway......one of the things I like the most about the Regulaor 26 is the tackle station leaning post. Simple enough, I will build a leaning post and add the components used by Regulator in their leaning post and have reasonable imitation of their tackle station for my Contender. Wrong! I was informed by Regulator that unless I could prove ownership I could not buy any parts from them through one of their dealers. I inquired as to who built the polymar drawer assemblies and was told it was a local company in NC and that they were also forbidden from selling me any of the components used in assembly of a Regulator leaning post. Damn people! We are talking about a freakin' leaning post, it is not like I am asking for some secret formula they use in their building process. I just wanted two drawer assemblies. The people at regulator were very snobby and I am not impressed at all. Meanwhile the search for drawer assemblies continues....spacemkr will sell me a 3 drawer unit for a mere $415 per unit (need two) so I will end up with a $2000 home built leaning post. I am one of those people who accomplishes his goals and you can bet some how, some way I will end up with a leaning post that greatly resembles the one found in the Regulator 26!!!! Never give up............

With all the posts about sleazy dealerships out there, I find it hard to believe you can't find a regulator guy that would sell you the gear and throw in his sister for the right price.
Check these guys out, we just took deliver of there Super48. I can't say how the unit will hold up, due to we just installed it 2 weeks ago. They were able to match the factory Gel Coat. The unit has tons of storage.
I think part of your problem may stem from trying to deal directly with Regulator. Like someone said, there's bound to be a Regulator dealer that will order one for you. There are no markings on them as to who makes them or i'd be happy to tell you. However, I don't think it would be difficult to build your own. The drawers and doors are just fabricated from starboard. Unless you mean the one one that has the built in sink etc..
You have to remember what business Regulator Marine is in, they make and sell boats, NOT parts for boats. There are many after market people out there that can sell you leaning posts, etc.
They treat their boat owners very well, I know b/c I are one.
They called me to take my boat to their plant 2 years ago to check if tournament fishing had any effect on the 23. They picked the boat up at my house and delivered it back after 3 weeks. They didnt find anything. When I got my boat back they put a Splash Board on it and cleaned it up to look like a new boat.

"You bought a boat from their main competitor then you expect them to help you make it more like their boat?
It's their design, they want it on their boat. I would have laughed at you and hung up."
Hey John, you should remember what you just sid the next time you take your car somewhere other than the Dealer to be repaired, or by parts at a discount auto-parts store to save some money, or buy your goodyears from Costco or. . . .well, I think I made point. Those Regulator's are super nice, and the company is a bunch of SNOBS. Arrogant snobs at that. Thats why there is room for Cotender etc. Some people actually want to make you feel GOOD about spending your money, rather than act like they are doing you a service to take it.
If only other manufacturers were so kind to customers...Don't know personally what there customer service is like. They only seem to want to deal with dealers. Tried to contact them about their leaky e-box doors, but never got any answer. No big deal though. They are about to get an ear full about a certain trailer manufacturer though that is putting their boats on the wrong trailer...just an FYI for them, nothing they did wrong.
Mr. Whipple rears his ugly head. You are so hypocritical. You chastize me in another topic for trolling, yet you not only make a personal attack but are trolling to create controversy not even on topic. I, however, will not stoop to the level of a self-appointed net nanny looking to exert control.
I think Regulator should sell the product regardless of ownerhsip.
I'll post it in here for your benefit DCKH. Maybe reading it twice you will grasp it's meaning.
You should take the time to notice the smiling head at the end of my sentence. We use it around here to indicate no harm is meant by the tease. My post was to reflect on how they thought of themselve towards him, but you didnt get it.
I bought a used Regulator in the late fall, so I have
no real experience with their service...though I hope
two things:
1. Their service is fantastic
2. I never need it....
For the sake of arguement and for my clarity let me ask this question.
If you bought a Ford, Acura..whatever and went to Lexus and said "I have
an Acura, but I really love those nice comfortable seats in the Lexus. Will you
sell me two seat, Mr. Lexus?"...what would Lexus say?
I have never tried this so it is meant to be a real question and not
a rhetorical question. Anyone ever tried this with a car? Would Lexus
tell you to go the the after market?
As of early May, I am now a used Regulator owner, as if some of you didn't know already, I can tell you that the dealer will quote and sell me stuff for my boat, but, I have to give them the hull numbers. After reading some other dealer practices, not selling anybody Regulator parts for something other than a Regulator, doesn't seem so strange. Some dealers won't even, or can't, sell you their boat! The marine industry never ceases to amaze me.
Wrong! The Maxwells are not nor are their employees snobs, elitists, or any other disparaging adjective or noun you find to throw at them. They are successful business folks with a great product and are rather typical small town people. Take a tour of the factory, talk to them at the shows, or if the unthinkable happens and there is a problem with the boat, go through the proper channels, and the problem will be fixed. I was there last December, got more than I asked for in kind treatment, had access to any employee if I had a question about any stage of construction, and was told about production techniques, numbers, layup schedules, power options, marketing methods, and got the T-shirts before they would let me leave. I got the tour before they knew my sister was a friend of theirs, so that didn't affect the way I was treated. I toured Albemarle on the same day. I wish all boat companies were as good as those two.
There is no compelling reason for them to sell you one of their fine components for your competing boat. The profit certainly wouldn't make their day, and if it didn't fit your boat perfectly, you would certainly have bad things to say about their workmanship. It's a no win for them.
You help make my point, as the title of this thread shows how quick you are to attack someone's reputation without any real provocation other than they didn't jump at your unusual request. I tend to think you start a thread to provoke rather than to learn. It is not your first antagonistic thread title. Maybe a title more like "Should Regulator sell me their components for my Contender?" would be more appropriate.
I really didn't envision this thread evoking such emotion. I still love their damn boats but I find it frustrating when I am trying to accomplish something that should be relatively easy and it turns into a major production. If they don't like me buying there stuff for a Contender, I wonder how Contender is going to feel when I put a Cape Horn leaning post in one of their boats. If the dimensions on the leaning post are correct (haven't checked yet), I can take a CH 24 leaning post and have the back left in tact. I will buy, build or steal drawer sets for each side and then buy two of the modular 4 box tackle stations available through boaters world to put into the back of the leaning post side by side. I then take two screw out deck hatches and a piece of pvc tubing for the lower front (map tube) and I should end up with something close for about $1200. Some of the people above made some valid points. Regulator probably doesn't have time to worry about whether I like my leaning post in my contender. It was really more how they said what they said.
On a another note I put the tape to the Contender 25' yesterday, from the back of the transom to the tip of the nose......2 inches shy of 30'. That's is my kind of 25'.... boat! Thanks for the feedback.

NC boat builders being unfriendly, say it ain't so? Everyone says people here in Miamuh are rude. About three weeks ago I went to go check on a new Whitewater my employer is having built. The folks at Whitewater were friendly, helpful and, extremely knowledgeable. I asked about some of their hardware and, told them it was for my beat up 1973 222 Aquasport that I'm redoing. No big darned secrets.
I have noticed a tendency towards snobery in NC boat builders. The guys at Bayshore kill me, "we build only a few boats a year" (because we'd feel bad going to church if we soaked more people). By the way, NC is a durn cite cheaper to operate in than Miami.
I hear the folks at SeaVee, around the corner from Whitewater, are also really nice folk. Contender is built in Homestead and, they're supposed to be okay too. I'm glad the Boat Guy didn't buy a Regulator. I hate to support snobs.
It's stupid for Regulator to behave this way, you never know, Boat Guy's next boat might just have been a Regulator. I bet they just got bumped down on his list.
Yea, I think Lexus would sell you the seats, but you would pay $$ for them.
Auto makers make way more money selling parts than selling cars! A $40,000 car would probably cost you close to $100,000 to buy all the parts and put it together yourself.
