I getting the itch to upgrade from my 275 aquasport explorer. Looking at a 31 Tiara. Are there any other boats I should look at that are comparable to the Tiara?
Do you definitely want an inboard? gas or diesel? We're in the market for a 30ish foot express as well. Initially we were considering some inboard boats like the Tiara and Rampage but I think my dad would rather have an outboard. It seems like the outboard selection is better. I don't know what your price range is but if you are looking at a newer boat, ocean beach marina in Lavallette has a brand new 2006 leftover Wellcraft 330 Coastal with twin diesels for $189,500. It seems like a pretty good deal. Tomorrow we are going to a few dealers to check out some boats. If theres time we're gunna go look at that Wellcraft. I'll probably make a new topic about tomorrow's shopping experience but if you have any questions feel free to send me a pm.

I've spent the last several months looking at 27-33' Express/Open boats. Top end of my budget is around $55k, so mid 90's and some early 2000 models are in my price range.
Besides Tiara I also looked at Pursuit, Luhrs, Albin, Proline, Grady White, Judge, and Parker. I have 3 young children that need to be able to get out of the sun (I'm in Florida). The boat will be used 50/50 cruising fishing. It's about 18-20 miles to get to the ocean from where I plan to keep the boat, but great cruising and swimming is very close by with nice spoil islands to explore.
After visiting several boats and pouring over photos I kept coming back to the Tiara 3100. The cost of gas is going to be a bitch but you can get a lot of quality boat for the money right now, I currently have one under contract with an engine survey completed and a hull survey scheduled.
Things that sold me on going with an inboard, and in particular Tiara...
Swim platform with transom door, easy to swim from, great to fish from. All 3 kids can sit out there with room to spare.
Lots of interior and shaded space with L seating under bimini, and still I get a BIG cockpit
Huge beam for a 31' boat, size of boat is just perfect... looked at a 33' and it seemed a bit too big for my needs. Parkers and Prolines in my price range seemed way to small.
Helm on the Tiara is perfect for modern electronics, I plan on installing dual HDS8's eventually
Called Tiara to get history of boat and they were very friendly and accommodating
If you have any questions let me know. I ended up paying WAY less than my budget.

I am leaning towards an inboard. 330 coastal is too big for my slip. My brother in law has 290 coastal, its a very nice boat. Its not different enough from mine to get rid of mine for it. I also like the 305 Robalo, but, dont want one for the same reason I dont want a 290. I can get a bigger inboard boat in my slip due to the outboards not counting towards the length.
There is an early 1980's Tiara 31 Open for sale by me that they can't seem to give away. Boat looks real clean and nicely updated in pics, but it's way too heavy and beamy for my lift so I would have to rent another space to keep it, even after selling my current boat. And my fuel bills would just about double from the single outboard I have now. Still pretty tempting, though... If they drop the price anymore, I might do something stupid!
I have always loved the Tiaras. They have beautiful lines IMO. Tomorrow we're going to look at the Regulator 30 Express, Some Pursuits both new and used in the 30-31 foot range, Pro-Line 32 Express, Robalo R305, and that Wellcraft. The only problem I have with the Tiara (gas) is that it does not seem to be as efficient as the outboard boats. One of the Pursuits we will be looking at is an inboard. I'll get some pics of that if your interested. Its a 2004 with only 70 hours. Here's a link to it: http://www.comstockyachtsales.com/pr...R0&veh=1220987
As for the Ranpage, I have never seen the cabin. I just have heard some good things about them and I like the lines as well.

That pusuit is a real nice looking boat. Garden state yacht sales in point pleasant has an 07 Robalo 305, twin f250s and very nice electronics. I think they want $120000
You will not be disappointed with a Tiara. I've had two, including my current 3200 Open (which I'm toying with selling--it's CRAZY mint as I'm mega-meticulous. '07 splashed in '08, flag blue hull, absolutely gorgeous. But we just moved, and boating needs out here are a bit different.) These boats will burn some fuel, but as far as quality, comfort, fit/finish . . . hard to beat.
Depends on what you plan on doing. I sold a sportfisher for my Tiara and the only time I'm sorry is when we need to head out in the snot to go fishing, all other times, I'm thrilled to death.

Yeah, Garden State wants 120 for the '07. I just checked it out online. Good find. We're going to D&R in Seaside tomorrow. They have an '08 with twin F350's that my dad wants to see.

Brian, did you look at Comstock's other listings? They have another nice low hour pursuit inboard as well as a Tiara 32. Heres some links if you didn't already see them:
I'll try to get some additional pics of them when I get there tomorrow. Do you have anything in particular you want to see if you're interested in any of them

Boatless33, did you see anything you liked last weekend?
Yeah. The Regulator 30 and the Pro-Line 32 were extremely nice. The Regulator had a "big boat" feel. Its more of a traditional express boat. The only problem was due to the fact the helm is right smack in the middle of the boat, the cabin entrance is far on the port side and the stairs going down inside are tight. My dad was a little claustrophobic going down there. Once off the stairs, he was fine however. The Pro-Line seemed more of a traditional walk-around than an Express. Bow access is much easier on the Pro-Line. The layout is also damn near perfect. The Wellcraft was also nice but it was the only one of the three my dad had insufficient headroom in the cabin. Although we didn't go on it, the Pursuit 31OS seemed really nice as well. To me, it looked like what an outboard powered Tiara would look like. The used Pursuits seemed a little rough around the edges, although, in their defense, I had just been looking at brand new boats and I didn't really get a chance to get a detailed look at them. I just walked around the hull, and peered into the helm area. After our 3rd stop however, we decided we're not going to get and express but rather a 34-38 center console, preferably with a cuddy and possibly something in the 23-25 range in as well (which would be mine)
Oh, and we went to D&R but they didn't have the R305 at the Seaside Heights location so we spent some time on an R300. Simply amazing. There is no other way to put it. Beautiful lines and an amazing layout. They do have an R305 in stock at a different location with f-350's. I forget what he said the price was exactly but I'm pretty sure it was in the high 100's
I snapped some pictures but I'm at school in Pa right now and won't have access to my camera until I get home on Friday. Sorry about that

Some of the Tiaras have v drives, I just found out from a qucik Google search. I would stay away from v-drives, and so would most other fisherman type boaters I know. They put the inboard engines in backwards with V-drives, and that messes up a lot of things, especially accessibility for maintenance and repairs.
Love my Tiara. Fit finish is excellent. Good overall ride. Great family boat able to make the occasional offshore trip to the canyons, or to cruise the Chesapeake bay for a few weeks. Great all around boat
Like the boat so much, I spent the $$$$ to repower with diesels.... Never looked back.
