Red face 87 Galaxy Admiral gas tank question:::::

Hi,

So I'm filling her up and gas comes flying out everywhere...(well, it wasn't THAT bad...but still) anyway, so the last time we were on the lake, we stayed out a few hours and the gauge (which i assume is faulty considering it's 20 years old) said 3/4, then 1/2, then 1/4, then finally we were on E (over the span of the day, not all at once). i was figuring id be filling at least 20 gallons, but to my surprise, it took about 9 before it spewed out? obviously showing the gauge is off, but, my question is, how big is the tank? i cant for the life of me find any information on this type of boat no matter how many sites or books i read!! i realize that the gauge will never be dead set since were in water, but a round about idea of where we're at as far as gas goes would be nice!!
i do recall a person on here saying they were familiar with these, so any help is appreciated!! thanks so much!

Not sure about tank size, but a recent thread addressed a low spot inthe fuel line causing this issue...even had a nice diagram.

should be a tag on the fuel tank giving you the gallonage is it plastic or aluminum? In the floor or in the rear corner of the boat?

im not sure what kind of tank it is? it's inside and i haven'tseen it?? plus, any tags or stickers that were once on the boat are either gone or far faded from viewing since it's so old and not the best taken care of???

Should be either 35 or 40 gal from memory You could carry a small can of gas with you and run her completely dry once; put enough in to get her back to a fuel pier, fill it up, and then you'll know for sure. Best I can suggest. Good luck

thanks for the help...now for a dumb question, i hate to even ask this for fear of being ridiculed, however: when the gas came out, it didnt start coming out of the gas tank hole, it poured out of a silver knob type plug to the left of the gas hole. it sticks out like a cylindrical knob and it has a hole on the bottom side of it. is this some sort of gas overflow, OR, is it something else that i should not have had gas coming out of?? ill try to post a picture later to explain what im saying, unless someone knows exactly what i mean. thanks everyone

That's the fuel tank vent. Your tank has to be able to breathe.

Galaxy uses a zamak round vent with a screened hole in the bottom. gas will always come out if you are full or fill too fast.

The run empty idea is not bad of you have a remote tank. Is this an inboard or outboard? I know the 19 outboard had a 14 gall alum tank.
