Default Tilt problem any suggestions help.

Went down to my boat today just to run my 2002 Mercury outboard 125 HP today. Started right up. All of sudden the engine tilted up all by itself. I had to shut off the battery for the tilt motor to stop. It will not from the helm control stop the tilt motor. The only way I got it to go up or down was using the control on the engine. I am not going to take a chance going out and I was wondering if this was an electrical problem or an tilt motor issue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you got the switches on the motor to work it correctly, I would tend to figure it is an electrical issue within the switch, that I assume is on the shifter/throttle arm.

Could be the switch or could be the relays.
Most likely a switch.
Normally on these newer outboards, there is a switch on the throttle handle and there is another switch on the motor (outside).
One of those switches are likely to be bad. You can disconnect one of those switches and give it a try. If it still goes up, then its the one still in the circuit.
