Great question I am sure Joey from Sundance will be along here tomorrow to answer your question.

Does not sound like a normal problem to me.

Good question. Cocktail cruising? Put the coals to it, man. The ECM is looking for a specific set of load conditions (MAP) and throttle position for the counter to move. Not idling at the dock.

What boat is this? An overpowered chine walker? (1/3 throttle is going 47Kt)

The bad thing about this is you are in double oiling mode. I have had mine go back into break in mode for no reason i could figure. I know that the ddt can reset to breakin mode but as i recall, you can't un set it or turn it off. Just do like bandit said run it and try not to foul your plugs. Good thing opti oil is cheap. You can manully enter oil pump priming mode with shifting the shifter levers back and forth rapidly between forward and reverse something like 6 or more (don't remenber) times. Then you will hear the oil pump start ticking, I always wondered if this sometimes reset breakin too.

Maybe some of you accidentally initiated a new break-in cycle. From my ’99 Opti Service Manual:

SHIFT SWITCH ACTIVATION PRIME

Turn ignition key to “ON” position.

Within the first 10 seconds after the key has been turned on, move the remote control handle from neutral into forward gear 3 to 5 times. This will automatically start the priming process.
  • Fills the oil pump, oil supply hose feeding pump and oil hoses going to the crankcase and air compressor.
  • Activates break-in oil ratios
  • Initiates a new 120 minute engine break-in cycle.

192 Tourney is right on. I think the engine will run 10 hours in the break in mode before going back to normal. I don't think running in the break in mode will harm your engine. I know of no way to get it back to normal except let it run itself out.

It will run itself out if you don't mess with the shifter. If it does not than one of the sensors is lying to the computer, or the computer is somehow confused by the prop pitch & throttle position on cruise. (light fast boat) There used to be an ECM change available on some early models to fix this.
