You betcha, many times. The first being when I was 15 when I came over from Lauderdale with a buddy in my 16' Whaler. Also been to la Bodeguita del Medio, la Floridita and Sloppy Joe's to name a few in this hemisphere.
Give me a hint as to where Billy Joe's is, I'll give it a whirl.

16' whaler...........
Billy Joe's is the shack of a restaurant at the west end of the Our Lucaya Beach. For some reason they allowed him to stay when they built the hotels. If you have not been there it is nothing like the hotel restaurants, wooden picnic tables and plywood roof. Conch and lobster was great, the whole snappers they deep fry were out of this world. Funny but the doorman at our hotel told us about it. He said just walk down the beach till you find it......
The last time we took our boat to Bimini was in 2006.

A rude haven for obnoxious, nouveau riche, no speakie Engleesh foreigners just like Coral Gables. You hit that one right on the head. I can't stand Coral Gables, just like I think Bimini Bay ruined Bimini. Bigger and Better isn't always best.

Now I remember that happening all the time...there have always been a handful of unsavory locals speeding down 'Kings Highway' in large trucks, speeding by marinas in speed boats late at night, or selling drugs right on the docks...

I have nothing against what they are doing, just where they are doing it.
It is befitting of a Tony Montana-style family from Miami to build a walled, gated palace of faux grandeur while bulldozing the natural landscape.
The leader isn't to the boat yet, but they're gaining line... Plan is to reopen next Spring as "The Bimini Big Game Club, a Guy Harvey Outpost Resort & Marina". Guy and his partners are working with the government and lawyers to resolve a bunch of outstanding issues. They have some exciting plans to revitalize and upgrade the resort and a group of guys who know fishing, diving and marine conservation. And for something new and different - how to run a first class operation. They might even let me sell some chum over there!
Cheers,
Capt Mark

Excelent news! Hopefully it will be like it was back when Bacardi owned it. Those were fun times!
I was first im Bimini in the early '70's with my Grandfather and his buds. What a magical place it was then. Even in the early-mid 90's when I was last there, it still retained alot of what made it a cool place to be. I was really looking fwd to heading over there this winter from Islamorada but might wait until BBG re-opens, unless you guys can point me to a place that isn't fouling up the island. Ever notice that when ppl from away come into a "perfect place" that they bring in everything they were running from? Friggin dopes...
The two places I can recomend highly other than the Big Game are the Sea Crest and the Bimini Sands.
The Sea Crest is just a little south of the Big Game, its a small place with no pool, resturant or bar on site. But the place is clean and very affordable. And they have nice rooms that over look the marina.
The Sands is on South Bimini and is a newer place, broke ground in the 90s. You might remember the red roofs as you enter Bimini harbor. They are town house style places and will cost you a bit more to stay there. But the grounds are very nice and there is a pool, resturant and bar on site. The downside is you will have to take the ferry or your own boat to party at the bars Friday and Saturday night.
No winter trips for me, the wind and seas are to unpredictable. It can be flat calm one day and 10' seas the next. I have gotten stuck over there before. Once we even had to leave my fathers boat and fly back, then we went back a week later once the seas calmed down to bring the boat home.
I make all my trips between May and September. The island is pretty dead this time of year, usually only the big boys in the 60+ footers.

Yea... I hope that they leave out the resort part... not only because of all the reasons mentioned above but also from my personal point of view, resorts tend to bring the price up compared to a common hotel.
Cheap accommodations would help a lot if you plan to do the crossing several time on the summer.
Last (and only) time we stayed on the Sea crest and it was really good for the price of $100 per room. Bed to sleep, hot water, cool working A/C, and secure marina is all I need. (and small area close to the marina or water to grill some steaks!!!!)
I would probably pay some more for the pool and bar, but that would be it.
Even if I would have the pool I do not know if I would like to spend A LOT of time in it or the room being on Bimini!!!1 I want to spend as much as I can on the boat and lurking around....
Just my 2 cents!!!

Yeah, kinda what I figured, but I might take a shot at it anyway once or twice and hope the weather holds...

You sound like a racist and envious person dont stereotype everyone in coral gables and BB some do "speakie engleesh"
if you are refering to the capo family as drug dealers they may have other defects, but unless youve seen the smuggling drugs i dont think you should be talking SH*T. i dont agree with everything theyve done and have never stayed at BB, but i also dont agree with people talking crap. stop hating and lets hope for better things with the big game.

Had my first real drink at the bar across or outside of Big Game...can't remember if it was part of it or not but I remember my dad was inside smoking cigars and eating dinner and he let me and another kid my age that was on the group of boats cruise the the street...between the drug runners, prostitution, underage drinking and general feeling I could get my throat slit at anytime, it made it pretty big impression on me. The idiot other kid bought a bag of weed and hid it on his dad's boat...with the bigger developments, it takes on more of a Jamaica feel where people don't leave the security of the property. Not the same feel...we end up in the Abaco's or Great Harbour.

The last time we stayed at the Big Game Club in 2006, a friendof mine destroyed Elvis's limousine golf cart. The sun roof hit a low hanging branch at Radio Beach and bent the canopy backwards. Then, we got it stuck in sand and burned out the motor trying to get it unstuck. Luckily, Elvis Rent-A-Golf Cart, inc was at the bottom of the hill, so we pushed it down the hill.
Next morning...

I stayed there in 2008, loved it, love Bimini, love swimming with wild dolphins at WildQuest just down the road, the wonderful Bimini music, the food, the quiet ambience, etc.. I planned to have a big event there in 2010, an international film festival, but I see they've closed, unfortunately. Really nice cottages, wonderful staff, great location, good facilities for conferences and meetings, lots to do on the island, or just relax. Nice beaches! If the new owners of the Bimini Big Game Club re-open the place, I hope they'll let me know (mermaid7seas@gmail.com), as I'll be there in a flash.
