Crime has shot up on the island sinse the opening of BB

Most of the guests speed right past all the docks of the hotels that have been there for 50 years causing wakes and boats bouncing around. No respect...says a lot about some of the owners and guests.

I have been a guest of a guest, never spent a night there though. Just cruised around a few times and hung at the pool. I hate that you need a golf car to get from your dock to your room/condo.

I will agree....it is a beautiful resort, but its way out of place on that island and its destroying what Bimini was and is.

And if all the stuff I listed isn't bad enough, wait and see what happens if the casino actually opens. Talk about a large number of criminals on a tiny island.

And I am will to bet that if Bimini Bay wasn't there the Big Game would still be alive and kicking.

But hey....thats just the opinion (and some facts) of a guy that has enjoyed many years of the classic Bimini feel at the Big Game and not the rich party crowed that likes the Coral Gables feel 50 miles offshore.

I even heard here is a friggin Starbucks and high end shop to buy a Rolex or Gucci bag at BB!

Yep. Bimini Bay is a disaster and no self respecting fisherman should spend a dime there. The big plans they have is to fill in some more grass flat, bull doze acres of mangrove and build a golf course and casino. Very sad.

Luis hit the nail on the head. It does feel like you're in some kind of Disney World set.

And I agree.......a regular room or cottage with wicker furniture and a couple of beds. A shower, toilet and AC are the only luxuries I need.

Starbucks, Gucci shop, club house, gym, dry cleaners, jewlery store, high end fancy resturants, the need for a golf cart to get from the docks to your condo?.........no thanks!

Whether you love Bimini Bay or hate it, there is nothing more ironic that the Bimini Bay advertisement that is popping up at the end of this post.

Google sure has their pay per click advertising down on THT.

I remember Bimini from back in the late 60's and early 70's. It was a nice place. South Bimini didn't have any development on it just some canals that had been dug.

You guys are breaking my heart. I was there for my honeymoon 18 years ago. Yep, my wife likes to fish and dive as much as I do. I had know idea it closed. We dove on some of the best reefs I've every seen like Tuna Ally, we bone fished, rented mopeds and tour the island with no fear. We had our own private tour guide named JB which was short for Jim Beam. You get the picture. He lived in and old washed up boat that kept him dry. We flew over there on Chalk Airlines. I watched my pilot drive golf balls into the bay as we were loading in Miami, He walked up handed the attend is driver and climbed into the pilot seat. Every morning I wake up I sip my coffee from my Bimini Big Game coffee mug. What an incredible place!

I was able to get to Bimini in great part thanks to ScarabChris last June.... The sight of the BG is SAD!!!! As I was looking at it Chris started telling me how it was on the good ol' days, he kept going and going and I started imagining how it was, I could picture it in my mind, the images were so vivid to the point of almost smelling it...
For a split second I looked somewhere else and when i look back to the BG I realized how far away the picture in my mind was with reality....

I hope the best to whoever re-opens the BG. I know that at least on the beginning they will have a lot of nostalgic anglers to fill it up....

Carbo.......we are finally on complete agreement.

Blue Bayou......I think the Big Game should open back up and try to operate as it did years ago. But not at the high end level they have been trying to accomplish over tha last 5+ years.

Enough of that "fancy" resturant next to the pool. Knock that whole shit out and make it a huge open air bar with flat screen TVs that you can see from the pool. Make the basic rooms 100 bucks a night and the docks a buck a foot.

No more 250 a night cottages, now they are 150 a night. Keep the electric on and fix the AC units so they cool. Other than that don't sink another dime into the joint.

I think that a full house at 100 bucks a night is much better than 1/2 or 1/3 booked at 200 or 250 a night. A full house means more food and alcahol sales. And charge a little more for booze if needed.

Trying to compete with Bimini Bay or Bimini Sands is over. Time to start catering to the "average" boater that shows up in the 25-35 footer looking for a good time.

Unfortunatly that will never happen because whoever picks the place up will try to make it the "best" place on the island. They will pump millions into it and expect a return. And that is what will cause it to die before it comes back alive. If people want to spend 250+ a night they will go to the newer Bimini Sands or Bimini Bay, not to the old Big Game.

Maybe you can read Hemingway, but you can't spell it.

How about a whole lot of money pumped into it and turned it into a 5 star fishing resort which is what it was in the past and bare feet and bar-b-ques at the dock are still welcome and the rates are a happy median between the two extremes not to low and not too high

Fished the first 2 yrs and it was just a charming place to go, I enjoyed it much better than WE, won both years too.
What was great is they gave us all the stuff leftover from all the other tourny's all year - sets of glasses just all kinds of stuff since it had dates on it.

Sorry about the spelling, must have been to many rum punches in Lucaya last month.......what a tourist trap. Never seen so many people with their hands out. Best place there was Billy Joe's.

Thanks for the slam. Where's Billy Joe's? Never heard of it. You sure you got the spelling right?

I'd been researching for a potential trip over but with the changes and state of things there now I'm having second thoughts. It had charm and sense of adventure but now it's going to be commercialized with probably not enough law enforcement to keep everything under control not to mention the negative eco impact. Shame.

That's funny you don't know of Billy Joe's... You should find it, I highly recommend the whole deep fried snapper...And the slam started with you.

Were you ever at the Compleat Angler?
