According to Boat US; Is there more Ethanol in your future ?
75% of the gasoline in the US is E10 (ethanol 10%). Last month, the Federal EPA was asked by 43 ethanol producers to approve putting 15% (E15) ethanol in gas before required testing has been done to see what it will do in engines, including your marine outboard. There is considerable momentum, political pressure and money behind the ethanol producers to help them get the approval.
The Facts : * Most, if not all, marine engines and car engines and fuel systems are currently warranted to E10. While new engines could be built to a different fuel standard, what happens with the 500 million existing gasoline powered engines in this country? * Small outboards are expected to run hotter running on E15. * Ethanol attracts water, so it's not great for any engines that store the fuel for awhile without use. ( Like your mower, leaf blower, weed wacker, outboard motor, etc )
If you want the EPA to do testing before E15 is the only fuel you can buy, please send an email before July 20. Otherwise, be prepared for some more unpredictability with your outboard and other small engines !
You have until July 20, to let the EPA know what you think about E15 and it only takes about 2 minutes using the link below. ( You may have done this with BOAT US )
