Default Where best to flush out Suzuki motors, Side or bottom?

I am new here so hello to every one

I have talked to a few different dealers and each one tells me something else. I have twin 03 Suzuki DF 140 and some say that its best to connect the hose to the bottom and run the engine, and others say its best to just connect the hose to the side and let it run. They say that through the side the water runs backwards allowing for better flushing.

Any one have any recommendation. I think I will just do both but it would be nice to know which one does a better job.

Thanks

I'm no mechanic but it would make sense to me that mimicking the path water normally intakes under normal operating conditions would be the best way to properly flush an engine so I would go with muffs for $1000

Late at night I use the flush port on the 175. Neighbours can get upset with a noisy OB at 10PM.
In daylight I use muffs & run the engine. People who keep their boat in a wet slip can only use the flush port & there are no reports from them about salt crystal buildup in the water galleries.
So I really haven't answered your question as to which is best..............but both methods are in the Zuke manual.

Manual recommends using the muffs. If I'm wetslipping, then I'll use the flush port, but 99% of the time, I'm using the muffs

I've got a DF225 and it has ports front and rear. I use the rear because it's easier to get to on a rack. Short of a tear down, how would any of us know which is best?

I was wondering the same. This Spring I connected to the front port then to the side port. I could not tell the difference. Both ports produced water out of the discharge hole as well us at the bottom of the lower unit. I don't think it matters which port we use. I do think it's better to be able to run off muffs or dunk in fresh water though because that way your impeller pump is spinning with fresh water. I have never been able to get sufficient water flow from muffs on my Suzuki's so I only use the port or dunk in a tank.

Two things to consider: most engines say 'do not run' while utilizing the flushing port, and using the port properly may not get the entire cooling system. I always use a hose when available because I think it gets to more of the system when the motor runs...

Only with the muffs do you fully flush the impeller. Matt, I don't have any problem running on the muffs. Why do you feel that you are not getting sufficient water at an idle?

Does the thermostat have to open to get flush water completely thru the motor? How do you know when it is open other than waiting for warm water?

Wait for warm water--you should flush the thermostat.
