Default rigging new 238 Sailfish

OK, i just picked up the new boat 238 Sailfish today and i found that it did not come with any batteries. i have 2 perko 2 battery switches and at this point have no idea how to hook them up. I see 4 red battery leads and 2 groound leads. not sure how they should be wired. also any advice on what type of batteries to get. i was thinking about 4 27 size everstart from walmart. thanks for any input or advice.

Each switch is basicly for each motor. How ever you want to set it up (depending on the number of batterys) you have each motor being able to pull off of 2 batterys. If you have 4 then each motor has 2 batterys for itself and if you have 2 each battiery can draw off of the 2 (or you can rig it with 3). We only have 2 batterys with twin 225 4s and don't have any problems.

First off, how in the world did your dealer rig and test run this boat without batteries?????

Now, getting past that, all you need is one switch for a single engine installation......or do you have twins? Here is the wiring diagram page from the Perko web site that shows all of the different hookups for single and twin engine/multiple battery installations. Just wire it like they have it and you will be just fine.

http://www.perko.com/cat_frames.html

Select the electrical product line and then battery selector switches. The diagram link is near the top.

As for the kind of batteries, your engine instruction manual has recommended battery ratings listed. Go with their suggestions as a minimum. There have been a number of threads recently on battery types and ratings....do a search. Four batteries is a bunch of weight, and take up a lot of room too......be sure that is what you want to do before proceeding. Most rigs only use two batteries. Hopefully some of the THT electrical sages will offer suggestions too!

Lastly, got to say again that you should not be doing this with a new boat.......the dealer should have done this all for you.

Hi Traumulizer,
Congratulations on your new Sailfish. Could you possibly post your impressions of its ride and handling once you get a few hours on her? The 238 is on our list of candidates; a very nice boat.

The reason i did not have the dealer take me out for a sea trail is that I went directly to the Sailfish plant to pick up the boat. This shaved off about two weeks on the delivery time. I plant to fish 2 tournaments over the next two weeks and needed the boat now so I could rig it and break it in. I did figure out the battery issue and now have juice to both F225's. Yesterday I installed Raymarine C120, GPS antenna, VHF antenna, DSM250, Laced on Black T-top cover. I still need to install ic 502a, thru hull transducer and some more odds and ends. itwonder, I will post some info and ride and what not as soon as I finish riggging and breaking her in.

Thanks

Tramilizer,

Congrats on the new rig!

I placed an order yesterday for a 266 and it is scheduled for delivery in late June. I'm already dying with anticipation.

Do post your first impressions of the ride and comfort....

What power did you go with?

Vinny
