Default Yammi Y.E.S. Extended Service?

Got my 3 year extention in the mail for a yammi 150 2stroke. $1600 bucks. What are the pros about getting this? If you spend money on annual service what types of things could go wrong that this plan would cover? I've heard the 02 Sensor can be a $2K repair that would be covered.
You thoughts?

I would check with SIM in the Shipyard is. marine vendor forum for a price quote.

Eds has it advertised at $1200 as well.

Might also do a search on extended warranties for the pros and cons. A Lot of people think they are a rip-off and others think it is cheap insurance (compared to possible expensive repairs). Just guessing power head 4-6k, lower unit 2k? Or nothing could happen.

good luck,
jj

AttitudeAdjustment,

If you are interested in a quote for YES, post on my THT Vendors forum or email me at andyjr@shipyardisland.com your engine primary ID number.

There are pro's and cons to getting it or not are often debated here on the THT. It does not cover any of the what Yamaha considers normal maintenance items. Filters, impellers, gear lube changes, spark plugs and gauges. One thing I know from being in the newused boat sales business*also is that the value of having it should you decide to sell during the YES period can not be denied. The YES is also transferrable to the new owner.

Andy

I also just read my extended service contract and I am wondering what if anything it does cover. I see that maintenance records need to be kept so they can be verified. Read the owners manual and stick to the engine maintenance requirements...

First off the modern O2 sensors rarely have problems but a brand new one costs around $300.

The two major items that will make you happy you have extended warranty are lower unit or powerhead problems, both of those are big bucks. As whether to buy or not, it is probably split down the middle. If you think there is much chance that you will sell you boat or motors in the next 3-4 years, having a warranty on the motors helps alot. It is funny that outboards are the only thing I even consider buying an extended warranty on, as of yet (knock on wood) I have rarely used one. You can shop around and get them cheaper. Also be aware that you can wait until right before the factory warranty runs out (probably 2 years) and than decide to buy one. The only downside to that is you pay a 10% premiuim over the price if purchased when the motor is new.
