Ahhhhhhhhh...Cberry107. That's a BANK check not a BLANK check. A bank check certifies the funds are there. In either case, why the laugh? If he DID send a blank check it's not a laughing matter. Unless of course you're the type of person who finds humor in others mistakes and misfortunes.

You have to understand, your motor is in "like new" condition under Miami standards. Miami has become the armpit of Florida to do business in...at least in the marine business. Sorry for that.

The good news is that there is a court system in Miami and it may be worth your time and flight to take them to small claims court. Forget getting an attorney. If you win, you CAN collect. I used to an attorney here in Jacksonville to collect on a judgement that the person laughed and said he would never pay. I had an attorney go in and legally remove the judgement amount from their business checking account. Find your check that you used to pay them and their account # will be on the back. The negative is that the attorney charged 30% of the money collected but I felt it was worth it because the judgement was 100% satisfied. Good luck.

Sorry for your loss. Its incredible how we are becoming a third world country.

It seems like you need to do a background check on anybody you do business with anymore.

I would contact the attorney generals office in the locality where the work wass done and in Tallahassee.

Good luck in reslving your problem.

Don

I feel sorry for your lousy experience. The majority of boaters have some sort of horror story to tell. However, I cannot figure for the life of me why you would box up a 200 horsepower engine and ship it all the way to Miami for a rebuild... There are countless dealers in the northeast who would have taken on this project. What attracted you to this particular repair facility? Was it a deal too good to be true? I am not trying to be a wise guy, I just never heard of someone shipping a stock outboard that far for a rebuild unless it was on a racing hull and needed special attention.

I find it hard to believe that damage could be the result of dropping the motor, unless it was from a 12 story building. There's damage on both sides, top and bottom...how could that be?

Is this a South Florida company? If so call Channel 7 News, Howard will set it straight for you. If what you are claiming is the truth, then get the local media on your side...Miami Herald, Sun Sentinal, news stations, etc. They love to print/air stories like this. Regarding Better Business Bureau, I was under the aged impression there was no BBB in South Florida after they were kicked off the national committee a few years ago for being on the take. Could be wrong, but if you bluffed this to the company then they are laughing.

I gotta copy Fin-Nagel! What the heck were you thinking of to ship a 500# outboard from close to canada to close to cuber? If it was such a deal then you GOT such a deal! You get what you pay for!**** IMHO......

I have to agree on 3 counts:

1st - Is there no one in NH who can work on engines? Why did you ship it all the way down here?

2nd - Miami is a 3rd world country and has more than its fair shar of dirtbags. Some guy in NH was ripe for the picking. They probably had never heard of NH and thought it was another country. Figured they could never be touched

3rd-Call channel 7 and get in touch with "Help me Howard" the guy would probably eat this up. He is an attorney (I think) with hair slicked back into a ponytail and he is just dying to help the little guy. Lay the story on him and maybe Howard can help you.

Good luck man!

Hi dcappotto.

I am a recent user of THT & was looking at some older threads & came across your story of woe about the rebuild. I'm curious if there ever was a happy ending? Please let us know.
