Default JTM - Lake champlain

Hey was thinking of planning a trip onto the big lake for this summer. How is Vermont with NH registered boats? Any palces I should check out or avoid . I plan on either camping or sleeping on the boat. 23'Cuddy. Need to find a good chart too. Thanks in advance Scott

Scott - Lots of great place to go. A lot depends on how long you will be on the lake and how far you want to run. I am biased towards the broad lake from Split Rock Point north, but I also run south to the Westport NY a lot. It is worth stopping in places like Essex NY, and of course Burlington is a great place to start and finish. A lot of people camp at Valcour Island and there are some nice coves along the New York shore Between Essex and Westport. With all the history of the Lake there are some nice places to visit, looking up at Fort Ticonderoga from the water is pretty impressive (though water quality that far south leaves a lot to be desired). You may want to check in with Burlington Parks and Rec (802-864-0123 and get the number for the Harbor Master or Boat House) to reserve a mooring in the Harbor (or a slip). Drop me a line in my Tackle Box or e-mail me with more specifics. Of course I am chomping at the bit to get out there –water is still 39 degrees. I hope you make the visit! As for NH boaters there aren't any issues I am aware of. I see NH plates all the time at the launch especially during the LCI derby over fathers’ day.

I haven't been on the lakes in NH for a few years now. Last I knew, they were going to adapt to the Coast Guard registration for inland waterways as well as the ocean which would make them interchangable with any state in the nation. It was my understanding that they were the last hold out in converting to this.
