Default 2000 Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI - water flow?

What is the route of the engine's cooling water?

I have a leak, ONLY when the boat is running, and water is NOT making it to the engine, it is pouring into the hull. I took a short look, and the hose that I believe brings in the water goes from the transom to what appears to be the power steering cooler. I didn't drain that at the end of the season... probably cracked... lesson learned.

I suppose the water runs through that first before it goes to the motor? Threfore it's dumping all of the water out from there, pre-motor.

Is that a good design?

yes power steering cooler then into the T state houseing where it cools the engine via the engines water pump then dumped over board through the risers (after the engines done with it ) ... pull the cooler off and check it for your leak. the cooler is going to be the metal tube about 12" long or so under the port sides exhaust riser
