Had the same prob a few years ago on one of my 2001 135 FICHT's had the "bait shop" check it out with their software...... Turned out the voltage regulator was shot. This happens to be an integral part of the computer(EMM) and the whole unit needed to be refurbished. I pulled it out myself and sent it to DFI technologies in Alabama ( I think?) it cost me around $550 and has been fine since.
Sounds like the same situation, but the only way to be sure is to have someone with the right software diagnose it.
Good luck
Jim

Does the voltmeter read about 12 volts when you first turn the key to ON ?

Because the motor goes into SAFE mode, chances are the engine computer, EMM, will have to be repaired or replaced.

Be sure there are no wing nuts on the batteries, corroded or loose connections, or missing ground cables between batteries. Any one of those faults could have damaged the EMM, or reversed polarity when installing new batteries.

volts increased with rpms, ie at idle less than 12 then increase speed and pinned to 16.

I had an issue last year where the tach was no working for part of a trip.

Not sure if it is related.

I have a good ficht guy who can hook it up to the computer to see what codes it tripped.

I will also go look at the batts this morning to make sure I did not put the second on in incorrectly.

Jim:

Are you slipped at ENBYC?

I am a member there, my boat is at Cove, but a boat with twin 135s there.

Being paranoid I went to the boat this am and I installed the batts correctly, I had myself convinced overnight that maybe I put the second batt in with reverse polarity, but not on me.

The EMM is probably shot.

I would sign up for $550.00, plus the weather suks anyway.

Cheers!
