Boat remodeling
I am completely gutting a 21 foot DuraCraft Jon boat. We use the boat primarily for fishing flats in the InterCoastal Waterway and we generally use the boat for transport to a sandbar or island where we get out of the boat and wadefish. Many of the ribs welds had failed from years of hitting rougher water. We are adding stiffners to strenghten the weak joints and TIG welding all in place. It is very solid. My next step is to lay the decking over the ribs, form it and rivet in place. However, before I need to add sound deadening floatation.
I am looking for about 3 4x8 sheets of (after reading this article) closed sell polyurethane that is roughly 1.75 thick. I have the ability to cut it to final shape. My locations is Atlanta Ga. I am just a little afraid of using the spray fromulation/mixture because the bottom/hull interior has formed canals to channel any excess water to the back of the boat.
In addtion I am seriously considering using spray in bed liner on top of the deck to seal, protect and hopefully prevent water from making it to the floatation, but we all know that water will find a way. I actually gave thought to spraying regular EPS foam sheet with the same bed liner to make them impervious to water.....
We are adding a t-top and leaning post which require increasing the thickness of the decking/floor from .060 aluminum to .190. We will also add structure underneath tying the ribs together where the T-top and console mount. This is adding some weight but again it is aluminum.
Any thoughts or help regarding above would greatly be appreciated.
