RE: johnsons boat works I have first hand knowledge with the place. I know the owner personally (Eddie), as I have bought a pair of used diesels engines from him. Thats the only reason I know him, and I had never heard of them before my purchase. I was/am doing a deisel conversion and found him through Boatdiesel.
I first went there back in September of last year. Since then, I've been in his shop a few times a month looking for repower odds and ends and getting advise from the owner. Not only has he been helpful and patient, I've grown to trust his judgement ans professionalism. I've seen some incredible projects run through that shop... everything from simple repowers to complete restorations to complete custom built boats. The most telling thing I can offer is that nothing lingers in that shop.... If a project comes in, it gets done becuase the next one is right behind ( I've heard plenty of guys complain that thier mechanic turns a 2 week project into 6 months... not the case here). It never fails that when I'm talking with Ed, we'll get interupted by phone calls from up and down the eastern seaboard. He has boats coming to his shop from all over the place. Johnsons boat works recently won an award from Yanmar for being Yanmar dealer of the year. When I bought my new ZF gears from Mack-Boring, they knew Johnsons well and had nothing but praise for them.
I'm not sure why guys are telling you their may be better places to go? I've found his work , prices and turn around to be excellent. I know I sound like a poster child but I've had such excellent luck with him, that I don't mind sharing my experiences. Has someone had a bad experience there? Maybe. But here is a test. Call the main number, any time between 8AM and 6PM , 7 days a week. I bet Eddie answers the phone (he carries it with him everywhere he goes). If they were shady, they would screen their calls.
Post any questions, and I'll do my bets to answer them. |
