I need some advice.
I have my 2006 Whaler Outrage 190 listed in the Boats for sale section of THT at $25,900. The boat is over $60G new. I want to sell her to move up to a center console in the 23-25 foot range, for fishing Western Long Island Sound. (Some lucky seller out there with a Grady or Pursuit or Seacraft get ready!) I have had over 300 looks, but not one response yet. The 135 Verado four stroke has only 103 hours and the boat is in great shape. I also upgraded the electronics to a 2008 Garmin GPSMAP 4208 Chartplotter (Digital GPS) with digital black box for network and transducer, at a cost of over $3,000. It has a bimini top, no T-top. My ad has full specs and 9 good pictures. She is in storage in Mamaroneck, NY (20 miles east of NYC).
So, is it too soon to expect a reply or:
a. boat is priced too high?
b. terrible market?
c. low end boat for this website?
d. Whalers don't sell?
e. guys don't want to buy a boat in the winter up north when they can't take a test run?
f. Fisherman don't want biminis?
f. all of the above?
g. none of the above?
h. something else?
Nice boat- but.....do you know what you can get right now for $25,900? You can do much better then a 19foot outrage. Or spend 10-15000 and get a 17 montauk. Just my thoughts- you have a nice boat.

Re: Boston Whaler Outrage 190 2006
It's a terrible market as stated and anybody with 26K to spend on a boat are probably looking for something bigger than 19', say 23' and up even though your boar is definetly worth it.
I may have been one of the first to view your ad. Here are my comments:
First, I am in FL. It appears to have bottom paint which many who trailer are not interested in. Your trailer is galvanized as opposed to aluminum and most fishermen do prefer a T-Top. I don't think it is overpriced, just a tough market and you will need the right person to see it. There are a lot of deals out there right now, and Whalers are not cheap even at a good price. I went to a boat show and they had an Outrage 220. The "sale" price was over $70k.
In a market like this, exposure is key. Check out the service offered by Bob at Anglers Edge, a board sponsor. I have not used him but I would if I were in your position.

Thanks for the insight. I have a feeling you are right. Maybe I should just keep the Outrage, which I really enjoyed last year. I didn't want to get biggerboatitis, but I caught it somewhere!

Are you only advertising in this website? If so, you need a lot more exposure. THT is only a very small percentage of the boating public. When I had my boat for sale, I would ask the prospect where they saw the ad. Not one of them ever answered THT. You need exposure - and flexibility in your price.
As posted by sprockets, definitely call Bob at Angler's Edge. Get that boat listed with him and you will have multitudes more exposure than just listing in the Trading Dock here.
Thanks for the postings, GF,DSSMITH, MAKOSTEVE66 and others. This is a great forum and I appreciate all of your thoughts. I am going to check out Angler's Edge, and maybe wait until spring. I have the boat listed with a broker, but no action on that front either. He posted it on Yachtworld, which seems like a good site.
The Charity idea is an interesting one, too.

I own a Dauntless 18 BW, and I would love to move up to your boat, but as you know, and have been told, this is a terrible market for boats. The fear of the recession/job loss is very real and the price of fuel hit the boat business first and the rest followed. If you have not tried to sell it on the Continneous Wave or the other whaler site do so. The price is right maybe even a little low, cannot believe that some Whaler/or wanta be whaler owner would not buy that boat. I could not view your boat for some reason, but one person said that the bottom paint could be an issue, and I would feel that way also.

Have you listed your boat on continuouswave.com? I may have seen it listed by a family member???, but am not sure. Go over and have a look. Sign up and list if you wish. The forum is about 100% Whaler owners or fans and it's free.
As luck would have it my buddy is looking for a boat and after seeing your post last night I told him to call you, as it is exactly what he needs. Hopefully you'll get a bite. His name is Rich.
Whalers don't necessarily appeal to cheap guys like me -- they command a high premium because of their reputation. You are limited to people who both know what a whaler is and will pay for it, and that number of folks just got smaller. Just my opinion, but I would guess that premium brands are suffering more than price boats right now.
If you really want it sold, wait till first stretch of warm weather, and price it aggressively. Don’t let it sit too long online – people will perceive that something is wrong with it. What I would do is hit a bunch of online sites the first of April.

Continuous wave is where you sell a 1972 17' Montauk, the cheapskates on that site are not conducive to the sale of a high quality big dollar boat.
Good analysis of the problem. I guess having to keep a nice boat like this isn't the end of the world. Someone can get a good deal on it, but may be I fish her another season and will enjoy it no matter what.
You guys out there are great to take the time to give me some helpful thoughts and I do appreciate the advice and comments.
