Default Optimax water pump change - How often?

I have 2 years and about 100 hours on my new Optimax 115. I use in salt water and flush with fresh after every use. The owners manual says to have the impeller changed every other season. I'm planning to change after third season / 150 hours. Can I go longer than that? Will it quit suddenly or gradually pump less volume?

I've got a early '07 175 Opti and I changed mine in late '08. I noticed a weak stream and low reading on the PSI output on the Smartcraft gauge. Easy to do and back in action with good output now.

I do salt and fresh also and some of my fresh had been in some shallow water stirring up sand and such. To look at the old one, you can't see that there is anything wrong but you can sure tell by the gauges.

Another benefeit of changing the impeller regularly is lubing the s/s bolts so the don't seize up in the aluminum housing.

I changed my water pumps when I blew up my lower units, one at 800 hours and the other at 900 hours.
