Default Suzuki 175 Problems?

I would like to know what kind of probelms you "PERSONALLY" have had with your Suzuki Outboards. NOT...what your brother was told by an uncle's wife's sister's, niece's, nephew's mother-in-law's, grandpa at the family reunion five years ago!

What IS going wrong on YOUR Suzuki? I am having a pair installed next week and would appreciate any heads-ups on thing that are causeing problems. Especially...150 and 175. Also the 140's.

I keep seeing people say to buy Yamaha or Mercury and kind of down about the Suzuki line, but I see guys all the time with busted Yamaha's and Mercury engines and I am yet to "see" the busted Suzuki????????? All the Suzuki's are hear say problems and they cann't tell me what the problem was. The dealer told me the big engines have a few issues, but I suspect because of them being on high speed boats they are over reve problems.

Any way let me hear what has broke on your 140, 150 and 175 Suzuki's???????

Thanks

OK, you asked for it, where do I start, I am going to have to take Suzuki to task, I have a DF175 and man let me tell a few things about it.

1. It gets great fuel mileage

2. Does not use any oil between changes

3. Lower unit oil is clean as new when I change it

4. Great looking design

5. Strong engine lots of low end grunt and great high end power

6. Suzuki did a great job on this engine, I recommend them to anyone who wants a good engine that does not break the bank and is reliable, gets good fuel mileage and so far does not break down. I have had mine for a year and half now.

I love my Suzuki DF175 no problems to date.

On my second set of 175s. Sold the first pair with 200 hours. 400 hours on this set. Happy to report not one problem. You should be able to plane on on engine.

2007 DF150- Not so much as a hiccup, and will push my 23' walkaround at 40MPH with 4 adults, fishing gear, and 100 gallons of fuel in calm seas. Not to mention I can run 100 miles round trip and troll all day in between on 30 gallons (has been as much as 40 in rough conditions)

Ditto times two (twins). Have a little over 200 hours on mine in the year I've owned them and zero problems. I will also confirm what John said about the lower unit gear lube being as clean coming out as it was new going in. Mine had some 100 hours on the gear lube the last time I changed it at 200 hours and it was as clear and green as the day I put it in. Use to change my mercs every 50 hours and it would be jet black. Seriously, no issues, great engines.

I'm sittn here trying to think of something that I don't like about my 175's , but sorry, can't help ya. I get great gas mileage(2.3 mpg average), great hole shot(3,1 seconds to plane), good top end(54mph), very quiet motors, around 410 troublefree hours(120 of it mine). Yeah, I hate these zukes!!

Recently traded in my boat which was powered with a DF115 (rebadged as a Johnson, but was mechanically 100% a Zuke) and the only issue I ever had was one of the engine latches oxidized - cosmetic only - engine ran flawlessly - had over 200 hours when I traded her in including approximately 95 in 2008 alone. Truly turn key.

My dad's boat is in for its third powerhead at the moment on a pair of 2004 DF250s. The first was a bad head gasket on the starboard motor. The second was the dealer's fault for reusing the oil pump from the first powerhead, and the oil pump shaft sheared. The third was a cracked head on the port motor.

Two 2006 150's Several thousands miles on them. The paint on the cowling is not perfect, and some paint wear on the lower skeg--my fault with shoal water on the way to the bay. Mechanically perfect--and I would buy another.

You've made a great decision. I still have a DF 150 around 900 hours no problems at all. Nothing zero zip. I also have an f-150 and again zero problems only about 60 hrs though. Still breaking it in.

Bill Erhenhardt has put 2 new powerheads on his 175 in 2300 hrs. His motor was probably one of the first 100 made.

No other problems that I have heard of.

Twin 150's...1000 miles cruised so far with zero problems...so quiet I cannot hear them idling with my pilot house door closed (not exaggerating). 150's allow you to swing larger props...16X21.5

So far I love the engines. I had my choice of engines and opted for the Suzukies 6 yr warranty....reputation for great service on commercial vessels...largest block of any 150 made.

I spoke with a local dealer and this is what he told me. They sell, mercury, yamaha, and suzuki. He rated suzuki #1 by far but said they have a lot of backorder problems when they need parts. Yamaha came in 2nd with a very good repore. He said suzuki shifted quite a bit quieter than the yamahas and were all around quieter.

2006 DF150 (same powerhead as the 175) with two full seasons and pushing 300 hrs. Not a single problem. Their design has a timing chain - vs a belt on all the others that needs constant adjustment..
