Hello, sorry I tried searching and just didn't find what I needed. I am in the market for either a ultra 196, ultra 210, 202, or 207 with a yamaha 4 stroke.
Can anyone tell me the difference on the ultra series versus the triton series, and aslo the difference on the gamefisher series. Is is just the layout? Or are there better parts on this versus that?
Secondly, I am a little worried about the build quality on Sea Hunts, just becuase I have seen a few older models, and the cupholders, and latches and things just weren't looking so good, compared to lets say a Scout.
Tell me your rants, raves, or comments please!
I am located in Charleston SC, and there is a 2008 Ultra 196 baby blue for sale with a 150 4 stroke for 28, 900 with 50 hours. Is this a decent price with the economy the way it is. And there is a 2007 207 with a 150 4 stroke for sale for 25, 999 with a 100 hours. Are these priced ok?
I don't have one but have spent many hours on my friends. He has a 2003 202 with a 140 johnson 4stroke. I think the difference between the ultra, triton, gamefish is the layout and options. For a 20' the 202 rides pretty good., and is farily dry. Go with atleat a 150 though. As far as the quality, it is pretty good for the money. A scout is a completely different boat and probabbly twice the money. Depends on what your using the boat for. I think it is a good boat for the money. Not a Sailfish, Regulator, Scout, Contender, etc. but slightly better than a Seapro, Throphy, cobia etc. and much better than a Seafox.
Hey what's up! Yea we have been in the market for a new boat, the economy is too poor for a 23 Contender that we looked at last year, so downsize a lot to a Sea Hunt. That's ok though. They are good looking boats, I agree. The frist thing I would do is debadge the name from the sides and on the tbox. I hope the 150 will be powerful enough.
210 Ultra was my first choice during last summer's shopping after owning a little 17 SeaHunt. Made a different decision purchase (listed below) after thorough SeaHunt walk around and inspection. Rich on features, but I observed that a caulking gun was the finishing tool in the fit/finish department, and the wiring and bilges to be low-rent at best. With that said, 210 Ultra is feature-rich at a low price. A family-friendly, fisherman's compromise. Bottom line, every ones price is low now. Shop the comparables. You'd be surpised in this market. SeaHunt was a good bang-for-the-buck ride for us though. Dollar for dollar though, in this slump, you'd be surpised what's on the block slightly used and CHEAP

I don't associate quality with cup holders, latches, bilge texture, etc. Cup holders can be popped out and replaced for a few dollars. My Sea Hunt 202 was about $14k cheaper than the comparably equipped Scout. You can buy a whole lot of cup holders for that kind of money. I also liked the hull design and layout better on the Sea Hunt 202. My hatch latches are somewhat ugly black rubber, but they work great after 4 years. The bilge remains out of sight 99.9% of the time so I don't give a crap what it looks like as long as the hull is solid and well made. A slick gelcoated fiberglass insert glued to the hull bottom in bilge areas does nothing to improve the actual quality of the boat. The wiring on my Sea Hunt isn't the most organized, but I've seen much worse. I've never had a problem finding what I'm looking for when I'm adding electrical accessories. I sincerely hope all manufacturers use a caulking gun in the fit and finish department. All screws, console seams, fuel tank access seams, pie plate hatches and through hull fittings should be caulked with Marine sealant. If I can see the 3M 4500 or 5200 I know they did their job.
Sea Hunts aren't "THE BEST" but they do make a nice boat that will serve you well at a very reasonable price. Their customer service is top notch. Give them a call and you'll notice they have a real person answering the phone.
Here are some links to my 1st 2nd and 3rd year reviews of my Sea Hunt 202. I mention the good, bad and ugly about my boat.
Ultras have things that a Triton does not, fancy wheel, stereo, bolster/cushions and different layouts geared toward more than fishing. GameFish is a step up from the Triton as well but geared toward fishing more so than the Ultra. I wouldn't go lower than a 150 on the 196. Yami has performance bulletins on their website. Check out Sea Hunts website for more on the features and options. Those prices seem high, shop around especially in VA and the Carolinas. Was lookin at used boats last year and almost got a 202 w/ 150 Yammy. Really liked the layout and the price was really good. Got beat out while trying to pull the trigger. This is the link to the Yamaha site..lots of good tests with the sea hunts. Good luck!
