Considering a purchase of a Sea Hunt BX22 in the next couple of months - please comment on the good, bad, and the ugly. Looking for comments on ride, quality, performance with different engine packages, layout, etc. Comments about similiar boats welcome, but I would like to keep the thread mostly focused on the BX22 comments. Goal is to have a good riding bay boat, with shallow water capability, yet some ability to go offshore as well....need the free board, and at a reasonable price. Looking for dealers that have very competitive pricing as well. I'm familiar with Sea Hunts as I have owned a escape 220 for 4 years.

z, you might contact Chatlee Marine in Sanford, NC and also Ed's Marine Superstore for pricing and availability. I bought a 22' Escape in June 2005 from Chatlee, but also priced it at Ed's, in South Carolina and also Minnesota.

I don't have the bayboat but I have been very happy with my boat and seahunt service in general. If you have not stumbled across the seahunt owners site yet, here is the link. There have been some threads about the BX series. Here you go...http://seahuntownersgroup.yuku.com/

I have tried this topic on here a couple times, doesn seem that there is anyone with a bx22. Board member Walden used to have one, try and get ahold of him. The bx22 with a 225 yamaha 4 stroke was only like 27k with some change if Im not mistaking up at Ed's Marine. Its not like you are going to be getting them to do the maintenance on it anyways...all you need is a hell of a deal on a boat, ed's will be your place to get it. Just make sure your agreements are in writing.

We have a BX22 with a 225 E-Tec on the back and it is a great boat....great riding, perfect power for the boat, and plenty of freeboard and range to bounce out offshore on occasions. I would definitely recommend this boat to anyone interested!

Not sure if the Sea Hunt owners group still operates their website, that would be one place to look if it is still up.
Chatlee is a good dealer for price and service, doubt you'd drive all the way there from GA for the service though but might be worth checking for purchase or price comparisons.
When they are optioned out, the Sea Hunts are nice looking boats with a good rep. When not optioned, some of the standards are pretty cheap looking. I think their cushions and their standard seating look horrible, but with a proper leaning post they seem a lot nicer. I got the new 2009 Nauticstar 2200 TE at Chatlee, just preferred how it looked and some of the features over the Sea Hunts.
Add in a nice trolling motor like the 80lb (or 101 lb) Minn Kota with co-pilot and autopilot to really make the boat.
Another option might be the Pioneer bayboat, I forget what they call their 22' model but it is also a good looker and supposed to have more freeboard than most.

Appreciate all the information. Does anyone have the BX22 with a F150 on it? And is that enough power? I see allot of them come equipped with the F150.

Tell us again why you want a bay boat?
Granted bay boats offshore don't provide the greatest ride. But again, that what I'm looking for.....a bay boat with some offshore capability. Thanks for responding.

You can go in the ocean in a row boat if you want........when its calm you can go in any boat. If you buy a bay boat be prepared to stay in the bay 95% of the time and outside only 5%. You will get beat up in any bay boat in seas greater than 2 1/2'.

RE: Looking at a NEW Sea Hunt BX22 - please comment on the good, bad, and the ugly.
I have the 21 BX I have been quite happy with no problem. I find myself fishing offshore more than I do inshore now. I have the f150 and will push 46-47 loaded out. If I remember the 22 would be around 43-45 with the f150. I take my boat out 10 + miles quite often I keep an eye on the weather to make sure to avoid the nasty t-storms. The only thing I didn't like about my boat was the notch inside the boat where the gas the boat up. My wife broke a toe on that. Ride quality was better than my 220 SeaPro. I am not sure how shallow you want to fish but with the motor up I can go in 14 inches of water on the trolling motor. My only regret was I didn't max out the hp. My thought would be to get the 225 on that boat. You can awlays throttle back.

S Hunter, what are your performance numbers with the 225? What year is your BX22?
Re: Looking at a NEW Sea Hunt BX22 - please comment on the good, bad, and the ugly.
zflipper, since most Sea Hunts have Yamaha power, go to their performance site and follow the 4 entries to get you to see how each model performs with what motor. Here's a link..
