so joining this forum about a week ago I just come to notice my nearly zero knowledge of an underground boat building nation in the US, that is of custom or semi custom Sportfish Yachts builders
would like to know the builders of this other boating world
and also the most famous and the most repected too...
hehe right underground was the nature of musical background when the really good stuff not commercial is hard to find so yeah it is not the right word I agree
thanks for the lines
would you consider Buddy Davis today a Custom boat builder?
No, not since they were moved to Jersey and are molded fiberglass boats. There is some customization that can be done but with limitations. Also, since B&D went out of business, you cannot have a truly custom cold molded Buddy Davis built unless he starts another company. However, in the Manteo/Wanchese area there are many incredible custom builders: Bayliss, Briggs, Briglia, Blackwell, Mann, Scarborough, Sculley, and Johnson.

Southward I have a ? I agree the Buddy Davis boats built in NJ by Dr egg horible are finished pretty bad and just dont have a good look anymore! but was a buddy davis boat built out of glass in a mold in Wanchese or Elisabeth city N.C. considersd custom? And if so what about the great job wayne at jersey cape is doing on that former BD that is now a much better 45 Jersey Cape and that 36 with all the custom work and following.Dont Knock Jersey just because of a few.
My money no-object-60-something custom builders in order: Paul Spencer (NC), American Custom Yachts(FL), Bayliss (NC), Merritt (FL), Whiticar (FL), Weaver (MD?), Tribute (FL?), Jim Smith (FL). Most of these builders not only build a great boats but they are good business operators as well - something to consider in these tough times - you want a strong counterparty in this process. Now where did my lottery tickets go?
Garlington- semi custom, but considered one of the best riding boats available
American Custom Yachts- custom...possibly the best boat money can buy
Merritt- custom.. not the best ride, but one of the best fishing boats
Sorry Carolina boys, the Florida builders are sexier boats
