Default 2000 28' Boston Whaler Outrage

Does anyone have any input on this particular model. 28ft long with a 10'4" beam powered by twin 225fp Optimax. I have always liked this particular layout with this boat, but I was wondering how they ride and how much they burn. Also how reliable are the optis. I hear alot of them have had head replacements with only 200 or so hours on them. Any info would be great.

I believe that model had a small berth which makes it sort of unique, you would need to have those opti's checked out since many problems occurred during those years and some folks will say the ride is lousy, but judge for yourself with a sea trial.

A contender in a 3/5 head sea at 25 mph will get you just as wet.

Also you could check on the Whaler site:

I considered one of these boats last year while I was looking to upgrade. In my research all I heard about was problems with those era mercs. If you do a search you will see. I did like the layout of the boat.

I ran 200 & 225 HP Optimaxes-2001 & 2002. They did have problems with them up to 2001, but ironed the bugs out and I had no issues with mine. They don't like voltage irregularities.....make sure your batteries are in good shape and charged fully. Other than that, they were good engines.
About the boat, if you plan to run in anything other than flat seas, make sure you have a chiropractor and a dentist standing by...for the impacted vertebra and loosened fillings. Saying it a rough ride is an understatement.

I recommend "whalercentral.com" over the other whaler site. Good folks, good info.
