Default outboard motor unit sales

Has anybody ever seen any sales figures for numbers of new motors shipped?...in 08?
These figures would of course include motors shipped on boats that are part of that brand's family ex. yamaha/century. Was wondering you really sold the most motors and how large a lead they had.
Thanks,
Seadog

I believe that there are a couple of ways to determine outboard sales figures. One is over-all number of units shipped from the factory to it's dealers/boat builders, largest volume dealer (nationally and regionally), largest $$ amount per boatbuilder/dealer. largest purchased as part of a boat buildr package, etc........ It's really how you print out the spreedsheet.... But no-one is gunna publish most of that info anyway. All you may hear is that Yamaha or Merc or Honda sold so many #'s and it will probably be heard over beers and not in "official" publications. My 2 cents is that Merc leads but Yammy is not too far back. That's what I heard in the bar last night!! or was it Suzuki is #1 and Tohatsu is...... crap, I forget now!

The factory to dealer sales are recorded and are sometimes published in the industry rags and online. Dealer to end consumer sales are also reported, but differently.

Check out the NMMA site. They might list it there, but then again with a leader like that Thom guy, they might just as well publish the funny's column.

It would be just as educational...
