Default 24 Mckee Craft

There is an opportunity to purchase a new 2007 24 Mckee Craft at a great price. The boat has twin 150 Suzuki's. Couple of questions: How will the boat handle at high speed, does it feel unstable? What do you think top end is with those engines? What do you do with the huge livewell that has a tiny access in the leaning post? What would you say the price should be in this economy? Can you put the SSI rod holder inserts in the stern under the gunnels (I know there is foam, but I was wondering if it was doable)? Any other comments good or bad about the boat. Favorite aspects/ least favorite. Any thing else you can think of. Thanks!

Wow, where do I start? If the price is right, jump on it. The mckee 24 feels like a much bigger boat. I bought mine back in march and honestly would do it all over again. My boat has 175 zukes and I can do 56 mph light, about 52 mph fully loaded for offshore fishing. I get 2.3 mpg total for a trip and I do a lot of trolling. You'll probally see a WOT of 53 mph light and 50 loaded with the 150's. The zukes are very fuel efficent and have a great reputation so far. The boat doesn't feel unstable at WOT, as a matter of fact, I typically run in the mid 40's heading offshore. The boat actually rides a lot better than some of the 26' boats I've been on and It's pretty dry for a CC. You should have no problems with adding rod holders. My boat has rod holders in the transom in front of the motors, and I have installed a downrigger on the gunnel itself. You say the boat is a new leftover 07. What kind of price do they want? PM me with that info if you want. In order for a price guestimate, need more info. Trailer, curtains, electronics, etc. About the only thing negative I can come up with on these boats is that they seem to have a ventilation issue when you start off. Lower the motors all the way when you start off, and that'll fix that problem. Another option would be to change the prop. That's the only negative I can think of. Mckee makes a very solid, top tier boat that you will definitly enjoy. Keep in mind that the factory is currently closed, but there are strong indications that they will reopen soon. If you are in my area, and would like a test drive, shoot me a pm. I'm always looking for an excuse to get the boat wet...David

Nice boats seem well made.
How much is it? I looked at a brand new McKee express with Yamaha F150s, hard top with enclosure, pretty much fully loaded for $56k at Cardinal in NJ last year, seemed like a pretty good deal. I would think this boat being a CC and with the factory in question it should be less than that.

1. I am not certain what a good price would be. Since it is a couple model years old this has to be accounted for.
2. I hear that at speeds and the md-50's and above it may chine walk a little but with 150's I dont think you have to worry about this.
3. I would NOT cut that much of the inner hull out, particularly to put those cheap looking SSI inserts in. I would go with something surface mount.
4. Havent heard livewell access to be a problem.

The boat has a soft top with no electronics. The gauges are analog, does anyone know if they can be replaced with digital ones and if so how difficult is it. I believe it was a tournament edition, can someone tell me what that adds over the base model. Thanks!

Vettnman- I like the idea of the transom rod holders.

Tournament edition or TE is a flat floor all the way through. It doesn'thave the forward seats or FS as it is called. Mine is a TE. I personally like the TE model better, but several people on here really like the FS. Libra on here has a FS if you want to see what the difference is on here. As far as I know, Zukes come with only analog, which IMO is better than digital offshore. I have digital fuel displays, and neither work. All my analog stuff works great. Maybe the pilot house that was mentioned above costs less than a CC for some reason(highly doubtful), but a brand new Mckee with 150 zukes usually sells for around $70k. That's BMT. If the above mentioned boat has a trailer, and depending on the seller, I would think somewhere around 60-62k would be a pretty good deal on that boat

The Tournament edition is the identical boat to the Freedom 24 but they called it a tounament 23 to compete in SKA.

Yes you can convert to digital but you may need to run different wires from the engines.

I have a 23TE and it is the exact same as the Freedom 24 other than the badge. Mine also had the totally flat deck bow to stern which I did like. I did however add the forward seating after a couple years for the add'l storage and seating. Thought the seats might hinder fighting a fish from the bow but hasn't been an issue so far. If you're looking at the 23/24, I'd think it would already have the rodholders mounted to the back of the transom. Great boat....in this area it would probably be priced around 62, considering it's a couple model years old and doesn't have electronics.

If you really want a steal pick up that 2007 28 that is fully loaded. It is literally a steal (in my opinion)

I couldn't agree more. This boat is wayyyyy underpriced for what you're getting. Check it out

I saw that 28 Mckee on here. It is very nice but a hassle to get to from where I live (pretty far). Also, the one I talked about is cheaper.

When you say cheaper I assume you are talking about the 24. If you found a 2007 28 for less than the one on here I would wonder why you havent bought it yet.

liv2bot I am not sure if anyone has brought this up yet but you should know that Mckee Craft went out of business a few months back. There are rumors that they may re-open or may have already I am unsure but this is something you should take into serious consideration on any offer to buy this boat, it very well may buy you some substancial bargaining power.

At wide open or any speed my 23TE is solid as a rock. I am running twin 200 Etecs. The livewell access is just fine, no issues. How much was the boat you are looking at as others have stated get the 28 on THT here it is a flippin steal.
