We have a 250 E-tec that uses about a gallon of xd-1oo every 60 gallons of gas.

Oil consumption is hard to compare from one boat to another, and from one driver to another. Oil use in an E-TEC is controlled by the motor's computer from inputs on rpm, throttle position, exhaust backpressure, temperatures, etc. A single engine on a heavy boat will use more oil than on a light fast boat.

If you run mostly slow speeds, oil use is very low. At high speeds, the oil is consumed quicker as is the fuel. Each time you accelerate your motor, more oil is pumped into it. A "throttle jockey" will always use more oil than a driver who keeps his rig at a steady rpm.

If you are concerned, have a tech ride along with you and watch the diagnostic software on his laptop. You can see the oil use displayed on the screen.

I have a 2008 225hp. The dealer told me 50:1. i.e 1 gal of xd100 per 50 gallons of gas.
happy new year

seahorse has it spot on. It can be significantly variable. For example on a "fun" day when I run the boat pretty hard it will use more. I have never tried to quantitate though.

Seahorse is correct. It all depends.

You didn't mention what blend of XD you are planning on running or what you are now running in your current boat.

I run an E-Tec 225 on a 3500 lb (dry weight) walk around. With 150 gal of fuel, gear, my wife and I its probably close to 5000 lbs.

On the average I burn about a gallon of XD 100 for every 85-90 gallons of fuel. That is a rough estimate based on me adding 1.5 gallons of oil and purchasing 130 gallons of fuel over the same time period. (One of these days I'll add a fuel flow sensor).

My trips are a combination of hard running, trolling and cruising at about 4,000 rpms.

I can assure you of this, my cost of oil has been a lot less than my brother's first dealer oil change and checkup for his Yammie. I'm not bad mouthing the Yammie, I believe it to bethe best made 4-stroke. But cost of operations of a boat seems to all balance out over a period of time.

It also depends on what oil you use (XD-50 or XD-100) and how you use the boat.

I have twin 250s and I burn XD-50 at about a rate of 70:1
