A question for the experts out there... I was looking at some older Intrepid hulls in the 30 foot range. I know that Intrepid hulls are a no brainer but my main question is the stepped hulls. Were the older hulls not stepped? Are there any difference in the older hulls and newer hulls when it comes to ride quality? Thanks
How old a hull are you looking at? I know the 356 hull that I have is stepped back to about 1995. I do not know the exact year Intrepid started to build stepped hulls, I imagin early to mid 90's. The step will give you some ride difference, not a day/night difference. It will give you more speed and better economy as the step allows air to flow underneath the hull. When it gets really really rough the non stepped hull is said to become a better handling hull, stepped hulls like speed. Like you stated, Intrepid hulls are a no brainer!
Yes they were 24.5 deep vee. The had a 26 center and a 31 center cuddy. I ran a 31 with Yahama 220 HP "excel's", very nice boat. Both 8'6 beam. Stepped are far superior, in all aspects.
Mine is a 1991 and does not have a stepped hull. 28' 4" 8'6"beam amd 22.5 deadrise. Rides great, is very dry, and very fast--60+ with 225s. They run best when going fast(ie 40+). I know a stepped hull is faster, but d@mn, the one I have rolls pretty well...
Thanks guys. I was considering a 94, 30 foot hull. I just hear so many good things about them.
there was a guy on here that had a 30 open with 250 etecs. He sold it a few months ago. His name is John Hermes, but no sure of his forum name. Do a search and send him a PM. He was real helpful, and his boat was sweet...
Just saw a older 30' with Yam 225 4 strokes on Summerland Key yesturday....not sure what 4stroke weight will do to the ride attitude...that 30' has great lines..good luck finding one
