Default Building Custom console

Realizing I'm never going to sell the Stamas, going to have some free time over the holidays.

I've been wanting to upgrade/replace the console since I bought the boat. I knew it was one thing that would have to be updated.

My question?

Would it be better to just buy a built console and scab it in and glass in to make it look nice.

Or cut out entire console and rebuild something that would be totally custom, I have the fiberglass ability so no design ideas or ability.

Any ideas or thought greatly appreciated.

Anyone have a glass shop they wanna trade out work for work on finishing out custom stamas.

I'm posting alink for the pictures alone. Thanks alot

If it were me, I'd work on filling all those holes so you are working with a blank canvas

Does that piece come off? If it does you're way ahead of the game since you can work on it with it upside down. If it doesn't the I'd be inclined to just cut the whole top area out and piece in a new flat section that you make up from cloth, or cut from an old hatch cover. Ditto the old helm hole.

Alternately a sheet of aluminum, painted black and shaped to fit the whole top would be nice too.

When I did my latest console I put stainless steel trim bezels under all the gauges. Really makes it look sharp. These come in anodized aluminum colors too.

One trick I learned is to lay out for your new gauges in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or something that lets you work out several layouts before taking any cutting tools to your console. Once you get it perfect you print a full sized copy and use it as an overlay for starting your pilot holes. Don't forget to put tick marks in the center of your circles.

Bill has the right idea ....It looks to me like you have enough of a dash to cover the entire section over with aluminum or maybe even a dark piece of plexiglass or similar ....You have enough room that you could install new custom gauges , and have room left over for some nice flush mounted electronics ... I don't know why you would want to sell that boat ...It's a beauty !!....Good Luck ...Jim

PM me sometime, I'm in Indian River County, not too far. I could help you out with the woodworking end if you want to custom build one.

The dash itself is attached to the deck and would have to be cut out, not really a big deal just labor Thanks alot for the pic. That helps alot. I guess updated design is what I really need the help on. Something that would look good and be user friendly for steering and electronic location.

Its a 1972 originally had a flybridge. Dont know the original model

If cash wasn't such an issue, I would have never wanted to sell, definately didn't start project thinking I'd ever sell it. Life changes, hopefully it will change for the better soon.
