What is good to remove rust stains in the bilge The cause was from leaking risers. They have been replaced so, I just want to clean it up. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
I`ve had good luck with Rust Aid and Rust Aid plus, you gotta keep repeating over and over but it`ll finally get it out. It`s a pain but eventually you will succed.I found it at an Ace hardware,Home Depot or such will also have it.
Do you give tours of the bilge? How big is the boat?. I am not trying to be funny but if you don't see it why bother?? Do you wax the inside of your trunk??
Still stir crazy up here ....

I use Bar Keepers Friend. It has oxacylic acid (mild) which removes the stains with little to no scrubbing. Just sprinkle it on and brush with a wet sponge, and let it set for a few minutes. Rinse it off and most if not all is gone.
At only $1.09 - $1.29 a can (which scrubs my 25' boat at least twice) is the best kept secret in the marine industry. Don't even need rubber gloves. I scrub the boat in my bare feet all the time, and have never had any irritation.
Mary Kate brand product called "On & Off" - keep off aluminum and your skin - wipe it on and rinse - no scrubbing
Anything so harsh that you have to wear gloves or protective clothing, or keep off of selected parts of your boat, can't be good for the boat or the environment.
Thanks for all the good info......I'll let you know what I used. I don't give tours of the bilge,......I'm trying to make it look good for a sale. (380 SR) If I don't sell her, keeping a clean bilge puts you on quick notice if something is leaking, etc.etc. Thanks again.....
Super Iron Out is my first choce. It works well and comes in a plastic container that won't get all funky when you store it on your boat. It's also available at Ace Hardware.
If it's smooth fiberglass, I'd go with bar keepers friend. If it's rough, or you want to save your elbow grease for another project, try Star Brite Hull Cleaner (liquid oxalic acid).
