Default YAM 200 HPDI Tilt & Trim Problem

Hey Everyone:

When I put my batteries back in the boat and trimmed/tilted my outboard up, the rate of tilt was very slow (say about half the normal speed). I had charged the batts before putting them in and since I had the slow tilt thing, I have taken the batts to two places to have them checked out. Both places siad that the batts were fine. Leads me to suspect the trim & tilt motor might be going bad. Anyone have a similat problem with slow tilting?

Does the tilt motor make any unusual noises like a grinding? I doubt it is the motor, usually they either work or don't work. Sounds like a weak battery. Do the motors crank ok. Another possibility may be a bad connection.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

The only other thing would be that you are low on fluid due to a leak. But the motor would
still be turning at the same speed as if it were full.

Last year, I had the trim solonoid go bad on my 2002 200 HPDI. The first indication of a problem was that the trim was slow to respond and then it did not work at all. There is an adjustment screw on the left hand side of the motor that relieves the pressure on the lift and allows you to raise the motor manually and I do mean "man"ually. I had to raise the motor to get the boat on the trailer. The skeg was dragging on the ramp. Finally ended up tying the motor to the dock and pulling the trailer up slightly to raise the motor. The dealer had warned me not to open up on the adjustment screw all the way .

I would suggest that the you get the electrical system checked out by the dealer before you are stranded.

I see you have a 226 grady. Im repowering my mako 210 w/a right now with an 04 200 hpdi. They are similar hulls. Just wondering how you like it and if you have any performance numbers. Thanks. Sounds like the trim motor might be starting to die.
