2003 Contender 23 with 4S Yamaha

Just wondering if the 2003 Contender (23') was designed with the weight of four strokes in mind...if so what year did it happen. Does anyone out there have a 23 Contender with a 225 yamaha 4S on it, and can they comment on it. Many thanks.

Was and still is a common option for the 23. It wont be a speed demon but you should get 3mpg. Boat is rated for 400 hp so the weight will not be a problem. With a full tank of fuel my boot stripe is about 2 inches out of the water all the way around and my scupper drains are at least 3 inches above the water.

You could get it with twin engines so I don't think a single F225 is going to be a problem.

Single 225 not problem at all, why not look at one with at least a 250 or twin 150's.

The 23 Contender is a very light boat, just 2400 lbs. Should have no problem crusing at 30 mph, with that engine. At least to me, not need to go faster. The price of a new Contender with twin is significantly higher than with a single, so look around and compare prices of a similar boat with twin, the one you are buying should be much cheaper. By the way, very dependable engine, no need to worry about going far offshore, as long as it is well kept.

Have an '07 with a F250 on mine. Weight isn't an issue. The boat design has been the same since the 90s. With a load I average 2.6-2.8 nmpg mid 30s.

I just repowered my 2000 23 open from a 250 OX66 to a Yamaha 250 4S. The added weight is not really noticable to me I think it is only 98 pounds....still far lighter than any twin engine configuration. The F225 doesn't have the power that the 250 does...they are a little on the wimpy side, but it should do fine and have great economy. Make sure you install transom wedges.
